Library Updates
Grade Levels Checking out Next week:
Kindergarten
Second Grade
Fourth Grade
Library Happenings: This week, fourth graders started learning more about the Coretta Scott King Book Award. We discussed some history of the award, why it was inspired by the work of Coretta Scott King, and explored a variety of books, authors, and illustrators who have been recognized through this award.
Kindergarteners have learned so much about taking care of books, and where to find their favorite everybody books in the library. We opened up a new area of the library, our browsing bins for them to explore. We will slowly open up more sections of the library to our youngest students so they can learn where to go to find the books they love.
First graders are learning about opinion writing, so I shared the book, Give Bees a Chance by Bethany Barton. We talked about how when we share our opinions with others, we give reasons why we believe what we do. In this book, one character is working to convince another character how wonderful bees are (even if they sometimes sting us).
Tech Tip of the Week: Be careful when unplugging your headphones
Follow the library on Facebook to see more of what we are doing!
Looking forward: Fourth graders will continue their exploration of Coretta Scott King Award Books and picking ones to share with their first grade classroom buddies. Fifth graders are working on 3D Design by learning some of the key skills need in order to further create. I will be working with kindergarten classes to begin designing their own galimoto. We will start by brainstorming our ideas before we build our galimoto.
Our SCHOLASTIC BOOK FAIR is coming!
Our fair will be open from March 6 - March 10 (previews on March 3).
District Updates
K-1 Elementary Reading Screening Results
Results for the Winter 2022-23 FastBridge universal reading screening are now available for grades K-1 on the SIS Portal desktop version. This screening was administered to students in December. We will share additional communication soon, once the results for grades 2-5 are available.
To access scores on the SIS Portal, click “Assessments,” then “Reading Screening.” Note: This tab is not available on the SIS mobile app, but may be accessed through the web browser on your mobile device.
Sora Reading App Gives Students Access to Library Content Online
Our district is committed to bringing unique learning opportunities to our students, and we are pleased to introduce a new student reading app called Sora that provides students with access to read digital books. The collection of titles in Sora is an extension of Lindbergh’s physical libraries, in an app format that provides 24/7 access to ebooks and audiobooks. In addition, our partnership includes access to the St. Louis County Library’s Juvenile collection as well. Sora can help students of all ages read more and improve comprehension. Students of all abilities and interest levels can benefit from this service.
Learn more about SORA by reading the attached PDF.
Long Kindergarten Registration is Feb. 13-17
