WBMS Friday Notes
September 27, 2019
Reflections from Ms. Williams
Happy Friday, WBMS Parents and Guardians –
We have had a full week here at WBMS. We celebrated our JAG award winners, played action-packed BINGO after school, competed in soccer games, and got some fresh air today at recess. Additionally, our students engaged in many student-focused and hands-on lessons. I love getting into classrooms to hear their thoughtful responses and questions, watch them collaborate and problem solve, and speak with them about their learning. This year our staff is being trained in technique called Inside Out Coaching https://www.insideoutdev.com/about-us/. This technique has been used successfully in sports and business for years, but WBMS is the first school to roll it out schoolwide. We are starting small by using these three questions when checking in with students in Compass and during classwork: What’s working? Where are you getting stuck? What might you do differently? (If they are getting stuck) They are simple questions but research has shown that they push us to reflect, take ownership of our decision making, and maximize our abilities. We are seeing great results so far, and I am even using them at home effectively with my own children. As we continue to build strong partnerships between school and home, I encourage you to add these questions to your parenting tool box as well. It is amazing to listen to our children be reflective and sort out their solutions! Have a fabulous weekend!
