Monroe Memo

September, 2022

Welcome Back!

Families,

Monroe students and staff had a great first week of school! Teachers and students spent time getting to know one another. We also spent time reviewing and teaching school-wide expectations, and teachers started establishing routines to help students be successful!

Before the students arrived for the 2022-2023 school year, the Monroe staff set goals for students' academic and behavior achievement, as well as for their own instruction. To hear more about these goals, please click on this link:

In summary:

-Teachers will help students set learning goals, especially in reading and writing. Teachers will provide timely and specific feedback to students to move their learning forward. Students will monitor their progress towards their learning goals.

-In a district-wide spring survey given to students in grades 3-5, Monroe students indicated that they could grow in the area of citizenship, which includes kindness and empathy toward others. As a result, teachers will spend time learning how to help students succeed in these areas, and daily announcements will focus on these topics.

We look forward to a great school year of learning and growing!

Cell Phone Reminder

Students can have cell phones at school, but cell phones must be turned off upon entering school property and stored in the student’s locker or backpack. Students are not allowed to use cell phones in school or on the playground. If students are found using their cellphones at school, they will turn them into the office for the day. The student can pick it up at the end of the day. If the student is using their cell phone a second time without permission, it will be in the office, and a parent will need to come in to retrieve it.

Attendance

On days your child will not be attending school or will be tardy, you must call the attendance hotline before 9:00 am. No contact with the school office regarding your child's absence will result in an unexcused absence. Messages can be left anytime, day or night. For future absences, notes are always welcome as well.

End Of The Day Pick-Up Notifications

While we understand that emergencies arise, we ask that you please make arrangements for your child's after-school pick-up by the time your child leaves home in the morning. It becomes very disruptive to our learning environment when the office has to interrupt class to pass along messages at the end of the day. Students also feel a sense of ease coming into school each morning knowing their dismissal plan.

Dismissal: Patience Please!

We ask that when picking up your child at the end of the day that you, please pull ahead to the first available parking spot. Double parking can be dangerous for students trying to get to their rides. We understand it will take a lot of patience from drivers during this busy time of day, but safety is our first priority. Arriving to pick your child up just a few minutes after the bell rings may prove to be a less stressful experience for you!

Conference Dates

Family/Teacher conferences this year will be held on November 3 and February 16. Please save these important dates to meet with your child's teacher. Don't miss out on this crucial opportunity to learn about your child’s academic achievement and success inside and outside the classroom.
