Week 1- Term 2 - Thursday 22 April 2021
From the Principal's Desk…
Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back, I hope everyone had a restful break. We have certainly hit the decks running with the start of an action-packed term.
We have a huge amount of sporting activities happening. A huge thank you to Ali Bryan for her superb organisation skills on getting everything ready for athletics, cross country and swimming! This week our grade Three to Six students will be showing their prowess on the Athletics Track and I am sure it will be a fun day. I know many parents are planning to cheer their child/children on and I look forward to seeing you there.
Special Assembly – 9:15am Friday 23rd April
Our captains will be running a special ANZAC assembly this Friday. All parents and carers are welcome to attend.
Working Bee – Saturday 1st May 9am – 2pm
Working Bee – We are having our first working bee in over twelve months on Saturday 1st May. We realise there are many sporting commitments on Saturdays however if you could drop in for even half an hour that would be greatly appreciated. School Council will be putting on a sausage sizzle around midday and we hope to have some of our captains involved running games for the younger children while our parents assist in moving soft fall for two of our playgrounds, some sand for the sand pit and general garden maintenance. The working bee will be running from 9am until 2pm so if you can, we would love your assistance for a short period of time in and around your other commitments
.
Maths Open Night – Tuesday 11th May – 6pm
As a school, we are embracing the fact we can have everyone back onsite. So, we would like to invite all our parents and carers to come to school on Tuesday 11th May from 6pm to participate and celebrate all things MATHS. As you know we have two of our experienced teachers undertaking the Maths Learning Specialist training this year and next year. Staff decided to utilise their expertise and their own, in planning a night of fun maths activities for the whole family. Please come along and have some fun with your child/children. It is also a great opportunity to look around the school and see the wonderful learning spaces our teachers have created for their students. Your child can share their work with you, their learning goals and all of the things they are proud of. There will be a lot more information shortly about this night but for the moment please put it into your diary.
This term also sees the resumption of NAPLAN. Our students in grades three and five will be participating in the Nation-wide tests. They include Writing, Language Conventions, Reading and Numeracy. The tests will take place in week four and run over three days. Earlier this week I sent a copy of the departmental letter to the parents and carers of our students in grades three and five. If you have any queries, please contact your child’s teacher.
We will be holding a book fair that starts on Wednesday 5th May. This is a great opportunity to purchase new reading material for your child. Further information regarding this will be coming out very shortly.
Tuesday 25th May will be a Curriculum Day for HPS. We are joining with all the schools in our network to undertake further professional learning in Literacy. No students will be expected to attend on this day.
If you were unable to attend parent-teacher interviews at the end of term one. I would like to strongly suggest that you contact your child’s teacher to touch base on how they are going as soon as possible this term.
Thank you for your continued support.
