FCCLA students headed to Nationals!
Ozark High School juniors Meagan Smith and Eliza McComas earned a gold rating at the Missouri FCCLA State Leadership Conference March 17-19 and will now represent the state in California this summer at the National FCCLA Conference. Smith and McComas competed in the Interior Design category, designing a trendy resort hotel targeting millennials. Their project included a hotel room design, lounge design and branding for the hotel. The students are in the Level 2 Interior Design class, which is part of the Fashion and Interior Design Pathway at Ozark High School taught by Lexy McNew.
Ozark Junior High School FCCLA students also attended the conference. Hannah Jones received a silver for her work on Recycle Redesign; Kenzie Raby and Kadence Kirkland received a silver for Sports Nutrition; Grace Vance worked as a room consultant for the Job Interview Senior category; and Natalie Tucker received a regional officer position and met with FCCLA state leaders.
The Ozark Board of Education voted to hire two new administrators for the 2019-2020 school year during the Thursday, March 21 Board Meeting.

Never give up
Ozark resident Jessica Griffith, who competed on "The Titan Games" hosted by Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, talked to OMS seventh graders March 20 about perseverance, inspiring students to "never let a failure stop you from chasing your dreams."
“Just because you fail at something at the beginning, doesn’t mean you should stop trying to be really good at something and pursue your dreams,” Jessica told students after sharing a story about how she didn’t make the cut for seventh-grade cheerleading. “Never give up on yourself and set high standards for yourself.”
Choir, Band Students State Bound
Nearly 50 Ozark High School choir and band students will perform at the state competition in April, after receiving “exemplary” ratings at the MSHSAA Music Festival March 9 at Clever High School. Out of the 96 solo and ensemble entries students performed at the district competition, more than half qualified for state.
In choir, there were a total of 42 entries. Out of those, 22 performances received “exemplary” ratings; 13 received “outstanding” ratings; and seven received “satisfactory” ratings. In addition, three students performed piano solos that received “exemplary” ratings.
The OHS band had 54 entries in the district competition. Out of those, 28 received “exemplary” ratings; 21 received “outstanding” ratings; and five received “satisfactory” ratings.
Students must receive an “exemplary” rating in order to move on to state competition, where they will perform the same piece. State contest is April 26 at University of Missouri in Columbia.

Challenge Accepted
Students at the high school recently wrapped up a six-week reading challenge. Independent reading choices (non-fiction/fiction), graphic novels, audio books, class plays and novels, database articles and blog postings — practically any type of reading material counted toward the challenge. A total of 238 students participated in earning tickets for treats and gift cards. Mrs. Muns and Mrs. Christensen enjoyed visiting with so many students about what they were reading and getting ideas for their own reading lists. The challenge ended with participating teachers determining the grand prize winners. These lucky students celebrated with a pizza party in the library and a field trip to Barnes & Noble to select books for the OHS Library.
OHS students, be sure to download the OHS Superfan App and earn rewards for attending OHS events!

Students learned about the types and cost of services provided by the city, completed a physical demonstration to visualize how much of Ozark's daytime population leaves, and looked at the impact of things like online shopping on discretionary spending and taxable revenue.
