MHS: COVID-19 Update 1
Montgomery High School
Dear Viking Families,
Thank you for your patience during this time. We understand there are many questions concerning the remainder of the school year, graduation, and grades. To date, we are planning for school to reopen after the Shelter-In-Place has been lifted on April 7th. Please know that MHS is working closely with district administrators in preparing for multiple scenarios including the care of our families and community.
Because this is an unprecedented pandemic, things will change and be adjusted as we receive more information. We will continue to keep you informed.
For now, here are a few basics of our plan for serving students as we move forward:
Free Lunch
Begins Monday, March 23. Any child ages 0-18 (and over 18, if they are an enrolled K-12 student) can show up at ANY lunch site. All children are welcome, from any school district. Although we prefer that children are present to get the meal, parents who must leave children at home will be allowed to take meals for their child/children. The important thing is to get meals to the children in our community who need them.
Grab-and-Go Lunch - 11:30am - 1:00pm - Monday through Friday at these locations:
Brook Hill Elementary - 1850 Vallejo St- Closest to MHS
Burbank Elementary - 203 S A St- Closest to MHS
Cook Middle School - 2480 Sebastopol Rd
Elsie Allen High School - 599 Bellevue Ave
Lewis Education Center - 2230 Lomitas Ave
Lincoln Elementary - 850 W 9th St
Monroe Elementary - 2567 Marlow Rd
Piner High School - 1700 Fulton Rd
Santa Rosa Middle School - 500 E St
Distance Learning
Distance learning is an opportunity for our community’s children to maintain their skills and continue studying while they are home from school. Like everything else related to this crisis, this will be flexible and subject to change. No one is going to be penalized as we all work through the details of keeping our community’s children engaged and learning.
March 23 - 27
Various staff members will be sending out communications regarding electronic devices. Our goal is for students to be able to work online, from their own device or a laptop on loan from the school. Educators will contact students to make sure they have a computer and access to the internet. Other caring adults from our schools, including counselors, might also be checking in with students and families. Please be patient as this process begins.
March 30 - April 7
Students will be able to work online, from their own device or a laptop on loan from the school. Educators will contact their students. Online learning will begin slowly, with time for everyone to get used to getting online and communicating. Please be patient as this process begins.
If a teacher has assigned paper modules, a school administrator will arrange a time for you to pick up the packet.
Mental Health
If students are showing signs of being overwhelmed and/ or other mental health challenges, they can call our Integrated Wellness Center Warmline at 707-890-3827. This is not a crisis line. For emergencies, call 9-1-1. To learn about other local mental health resources, call 2-1-1. Our Integrated Wellness Center will be open Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, from 11:00 am - 3:00 pm, by appointment.
Staying at home and following the Governor’s order affects everyone in our community. We know that some parents and guardians are already facing increased hardship because they have lost their jobs. Some students are responsible for watching younger siblings during this crisis. Some families are dealing with increased medical and financial concerns. Please know that everyone in our Montgomery community are being mindful and understanding of these, and other, circumstances as we are moving forward into this new experience for all of us.
