Florence Sawyer School Happenings
Monday, December 17, 2018
One of the questions I'm asked often this time of year is with regard to the process used for the cancelation of school and delayed openings. The Nashoba Regional School District follows a detailed protocol always with the primary goal being our ability to keep students and staff safe arriving to and leaving school. As you know these decisions can be challenging with unpredictable and changing weather patterns. During the evening before a weather event and during the early morning hours, the superintendent's office works together with several agencies to get the best available data. The superintendent is in contact with neighboring superintendents, the NRSD Director of Facilities, and the Bolton, Lancaster and Stow DPW superintendents to make a collaborative decision.
If a decision to impact school is made, an announcement goes out via SchoolMessenger and local radio and TV stations. The information will also be posted on the NRSD website and FSS website. I would ask that in these situations, parents not call the school directly.
Art Club is canceled for tomorrow.
The FSS Band Concert begins tomorrow night at 7:00.
Lip Sync / Talent Show Permission slips are coming home for the Lip Sync/Talent Show on March 1. Song selections are first come, first served.
Please remember to check out our Community Events Page as well. Many of the youth spring sports registrations are now open.
Yi Cheng was one of 8 students that correctly identified the FSS Math Problem of the Week. A new problem is posted in the Emerson and Sawyer Wings.
The FSS basketball teams are on the road this week with two games away from the Eagle's Nest. The complete schedule is below.
This is the last Happenings of 2018. On Friday afternoon, our entire school community will come together in the Sawyer Wing gym, as part of our Annual Sing-A-Long! This is one of my favorite events of the year. We share songs of the season and celebrate our collective successes over the past four months. We will be joined by Maestro Emeritus Don Ryan who will lead us in song, and close out our week, our calendar year and the first third of our school year with Auld Lang Syne! The final verse, "And, there's a hand my trusty friend, and give me a hand o thine," gets me every time.
I hope that you all have a wonderful winter break!
Yours in partnership,

Calling all Artists and Designers!
PAC is looking for some fun new designs for Spirit wear available after the new year. We will choose 2 winners, one from grades K-4 and one from grades 5-8. Winners will receive a hoodie with their design on it.
All entries are due by Wed. Jan 9th, to the office. Please submit them in a large envelope, labeled with your name. Do not fold your design. A few tips: Use solid outlines, designs will be scanned and submitted to printing digitally. Use a simple color palette. Screen printing costs go up with each color and the final product needs to be affordable. You can design a large design and complimentary pocket design if you like. Feel free to combine computer graphics (ex. Text) with your own artwork. Include school-specific details (ex. Florence Sawyer, FSS, Eagles, school colors). You can sign or initial your design, small and in a bottom corner. If you have any questions, email Annie Polk at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Bookfair is coming from February 7 to February 15! We need your help. If you can spare any time to volunteer or want to learn more about the Bookfair, please reach out at FSSPAC@nrsd.net

Bolton School Donations Committee
Follow us on Facebook
The Bolton School Donations Committee has just had our Fall Teacher Wish List meeting and approved almost $12,000 of requests from our fabulous teachers! Soon the classrooms will be filled with document cameras, fun storage items, and so many books it will be a sight to see, and all to enrich the educational experience of our children!
We work hard as a committee to fulfill these requests and are so grateful for the support we get from the parents in the school. We raise the money through various fundraisers, with which most of you are likely familiar. Your children recently completed their Square 1 Art projects, and we are able to take online orders until next week! Make your selections for grandparents, baby sitters, and all those who need some fine art in their lives, and submit them by November 26 at the latest. Holiday shopping done!! The other program that is perfect for holiday gift giving for teachers, athletic instructors, administrative assistants, and of course for you is the Scrips Gift Cards program. In the Virtual Backpack you will find order forms to purchase gift cards from a variety of stores. Purchase the gift cards through our Scrips program and you receive the card in the denomination you ordered. The BSDC receives a percentage of that amount, at no additional cost to you! Everyone wins! Do your holiday grocery shopping with cards to Stop and Shop, Shaw's, or Whole Foods. Purchase holiday gifts with cards from L.L. Bean and Land’s End. If there are people for whom you never know what to buy, get them an Amazon gift card. Starbucks, Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Panera, and so many more. Orders for the Scrips program are due by December 10 and cards will be delivered December 17 in time for shopping and gift giving. We thank you in advance for your support and wish you a very Happy Thanksgiving!
