Coral Reefs in Jamaica
By: Joel Florko
Jamaica
Located along the Caribbean Sea the island harbors better than 60 kinds of reef-building corals that, in polyp form, absorb calcium carbonate and precipitate limestone structures.
Things To Do
While along the Caribbean Sea many decide to scuba dive, snorkel, take boat adventures, even venture into caves along the coast. I took a trip to Jamaica about 2 years ago and enjoyed snorkeling along the reef with multiple fish. Throughout the trip we went to different reefs and caves, along with guided tours to see different fish.
How To Get Here // Health Issues
Most foreign countries require a valid passport to enter and leave. Some countries may allow you to enter with only a birth certificate, or with a birth certificate and a driver’s license, but all persons, including U.S. citizens, traveling by air, must present a valid passport to reenter the United States. Make sure you are up-to-date on routine vaccines before every trip. These vaccines include measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and your yearly flu shot.
Restrictions
While i was there i was at a resort that took care of all the trips back and forth from the reefs and caves, which most resorts will do, but if you are not at a resort you will have to contact the boat owners privetly and set up a date to go. It will probably cost money as well where as the resort was all included
