Library/Information and Technology Literacy

Mott – Preschool

In connection to the Mott Class’s study of illustrators, we read The Pencil by Allan Ahlberg. During Ally Week, we read Whoever You Are by Mem Fox. We also read My Garden by Kevin Henkes to celebrate the start of Spring and shared what we would like to plant in a garden. Students continued to practice checking out books in the library.

Hicks – Preschool

Because the Hick class was learning about the author Mo Willems, we read Edwina, The Dinosaur Who Didn’t Know She Was Extinct. During Ally Week, we read Whoever You Are by Mem Fox. Most recently, we read My Garden by Kevin Henkes to celebrate the start of Spring. We shared what we would like to plant in a garden and continued to practice checking out books in the library.

Rustin - Kindergarten

During Ally Week, we read Wings by Christopher Myers and discussed how to be allies and how we should celebrate our differences. We also read The Gardener by Sarah Stewart to celebrate the start of Spring.

Penn – 1st and 2nd grades

This month, the Penn Class gathered information about the various locations their Flat Stanleys have visited as part of the Do step of The Super 3. Students learned how to find a map of their locations using the Internet. We read Wings by Christopher Myers during Ally Week and discussed how to be allies and how to celebrate our differences. We also read The Gardener by Sarah Stewart to celebrate the start of Spring. Students continued to practice their keyboarding skills on Learning.com.

Fox – 3rd and 4th grades

This month, students completed and shared their comic strips created on Pixton.com about the Youth Media Awards. We have also read Feathers and Fools by Mem Fox during Ally Week and discussed how our differences should be celebrated, instead of feared.

Helman-Osborn – 5th and 6th grades

Do you know who Ada Lovelace is? Jackie Mitchell? Judy Chicago? In ITL class, the 5th and 6th graders have been researching women in history related to students’ hobbies and interests. Students will be creating a short presentation about the women they researched.

Helman-Osborn – 7th and 8th grades

In ITL class, the 7th and 8th graders are continuing to use website evaluation skills in their African American Women research. They are creating a short video about their subject using the website https://www.mysimpleshow.com.

Physical Education

We have been having so much fun in PE in the weeks leading up to Spring Break! Students in the Mott, Hicks, Rustin, Penn, and Fox Classes enjoyed lots of fun during the parachute unit. We jumped, shook, hid under, and rolled on top of a small parachute and a VERY large parachute. Then we compared the difference between the two parachutes.

Our Fox and HO Classes had lots of fun playing games and a tournament of cone ball. Students needed to work together to successfully pass a ball three times before knocking a pit ball off their designated cone. Students have been working hard and having all kinds of fun! We are looking forward to a great spring with (hopefully) nice weather so we can be outside!!

Spanish

Hola amigos! March flew by for our Spanish classes! Things are going well with our friends in Mott, Hicks, and Rustin. We are getting very good at introducing ourselves and singing our Spanish songs with enthusiasm and confidence. The Penn Class is also excellent at introducing themselves and we're practicing counting up to and above twenty. The Fox Class has been learning how to talk about the days of the week and months and has started learning family vocabulary. The H-O students have continued with their more intensive study of Spanish and continue to show good progress. Nos vemos en Abril!
