Safe Longhorn Update
Cedar Hill ISD COVID-19 Protocols Starting June 5
Cedar Hill ISD will implement new protocols this summer as COVID-19 conditions continue to improve and the vaccine becomes more widely available. All existing Disease Mitigation Guidelines, including the masking requirement, will remain in place through June 4th.
Effective June 5, 2021, all existing COVID-19 protocols will be replaced with the following protocols:
Face coverings will be optional for staff and scholars. Campuses will ensure no scholar is treated differently due to their choice to wear a mask or not wear a mask. Visitors will be allowed on campus according to standard visiting rules. Six-foot social distancing will be maintained when feasible, particularly in classrooms. Staff and scholars will continue to be expected to wash their hands frequently throughout the day. Hand sanitizer stations will be continued to be available at each campus. Parents and employees will continue to be required to report confirmed positive cases of COVID-19 to Health Services, but this information will no longer be tracked on the District COVID-19 Dashboard. Staff and scholars with a confirmed case of COVID-19 must quarantine for 10 days from the date of symptom onset or positive test if no symptoms. Parents/staff will be notified when there is a positive case in their scholar’s class/staff member’s class or department. Staff will not conduct close contact reviews, and scholars and staff will not be required to quarantine for exposure. We will continue to follow isolation protocols for scholars who have symptoms of COVID-19. Disinfecting and sanitization of high-touch areas will continue. Classroom doors will be locked for safety reasons.
Fall 2021 - Classes Start August 12, 2021
Cedar Hill ISD expects to continue the same protocols listed for summer 2021 in the fall, with one exception noted below. Social distancing will be less feasible during the school year as more scholars and staff are on campus.
Campuses will do their best to accommodate parent requests to ensure their scholar remains socially distanced when possible, but social distancing will not be feasible in all situations.
A full-time Virtual School is planned for scholars entering fifth through twelfth grades who wish to continue online learning in the 2021-22 school year. Courses are being designed specifically for the virtual environment using the CHISD curriculum and certified CHISD teachers. Scholars in the Virtual School will take all of their courses online.
Transportation
The new Cedar Hill ISD transportation services will follow guidance from CDC and TEA about capacity and spacing.
All scholars living outside the 2 mile radius who wish to ride the bus will be provided transportation.
Deep cleaning of the bus will occur once a week with a special disinfectant.
Scholars should not share food, drinks, or personal devices on the bus.
Scholars are expected to follow all bus safety rules and regulations.
Scholar Attendance
All scholars are expected to be in school in person unless they are a part of the virtual academy.
Scholars who test positive will quarantine 10 days
Scholars who are exposed will not quarantine unless they show symptoms. The scholars will quarantine 7 -14 days based on Health services guidance.
Daily Expectations
- Although many COVID-19 protocols have been lifted based on the Governor’s orders, Cedar Hill ISD is committed to providing a safe and secure learning environment for all teachers and students.
- We will continue to update this document with the latest information from CDC, Dallas County, and TEA.
- We ask that all parents and community members stress the importance of handwashing and other safety measures.
