INFORMATION FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Olson School Improvement Goals 2018-19 - LITERACY
Our expectation is that all students consistently show growth in academic and social emotional skills. One of our primary school improvement goals is to increase the % of OES students who demonstrate grade level proficiency in reading. This means students are performing at or above grade level. Teachers use several measures to determine the level of performance, including MAP and PARCC scores, reading level measures, math and literacy assessments, and progress monitoring tools. At conferences and again at report card time, data is shared with you to help you understand your child's performance. Please contact your child's teacher(s) if you have any questions.
Suggestions For Supporting Literacy Growth at Home:
- Set a regular reading time - 20 minutes per night is appropriate
- Make sure your child has access to books - public library cards are important
- Subscribe to a magazine that your child would enjoy
- Model the importance and enjoyment of reading
- Read WITH your child
- Play board games
- Conference with your child about what he/she is reading
- Limit "screen time" and encourage your child to spend time reading

RECYCLING AT OLSON
FYI -
- Paper is the major type of waste that schools create, typically comprising at least 25% of school waste. Most types of paper can be recycled.
- Electronic waste is some of the most toxic out there. OES consistently recycles our printer ink cartridges, computers, monitors, and old electronics that would otherwise be tossed in landfills and pollute the environment.
WHY IS PERSEVERANCE IMPORTANT?
MUSTANG MINUTE
Have you seen any of our "Mustang Minute" video posts that highlight things that happen at Olson? Check them out on the Olson Website - www.woodstockschools.org - Click on the "About Us" tab. You can also find these on Twitter or Facebook.
Most recent highlights were 2nd grade recess, Orchestra lessons, Farm Bureau Visit, and our Recycling Team.
CHROMEBOOK EXPECTATIONS
Lids are shut when we move from place to place. We hug-hold our Chromebook when moving from place to place. We write on a flat surface, not on our Chromebooks. We keep food and drink away from our Chromebook. We only touch our own personal Chromebook. Our screen matches what our teacher asks us to be on. I am the sole user of my Chromebook. We are prepared for class with a charged Chromebook.
PTO FUN FAIR - PLANNING MEETING
Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 6:30pm in the Office Conference Room.
There are a variety of ways you can participate. There are tasks that can be done at home and it's not required that you attend all meetings. Bring a friend and come see how you can help out with this FUNdraiser!
