Wolverine Weekly
Sunday, November 7-Newsletter for the Wilder Community
Welcome to Week 10!
Week 9 was a wonderful 3-day week at Wilder! As the second quarter begins, we are definitely in our groove as a school family. We are feeling confident that our structures and routines will continue to ensure a safe and positive learning environment for all students. This vision includes the implementation of supervised bathroom breaks during class. The restrooms are also monitored in the morning and at lunch for students to use as needed. Our student body is wonderful and I genuinely enjoy interacting with them in the hallways and classrooms!
Thank you for attending a conference with your child's teachers. Communication between our teachers and parents is essential to the educational success of our students. Please reach out to the teacher(s) if you are still interested in a conference as your partnership is always welcomed! I would also like the opportunity to connect with families on November 19. November 19 is a half-day for students and we will release at 12:15 PM. Please consider joining me in the afternoon at 1:30-2:30 PM for a Principal Chat! During this event, I will share the 2021-2022 School Quality Plan and hear from the school community. Please RSVP so that we can plan for space and refreshments!
Have a great week 10 and Happy Veteran's Day to all of our military families!
~Mrs. Broudy

Wolverine Weekend Kits
The Wilder community is so fortunate to have two partners this year who want to assist our students with weekend snacks and meals. Thanks to Anointed New Life Baptist Church and St. Andrews UMC, beginning in November, we will be able to offer Wolverine Weekend Kits! These kits will be available on a limited basis and are dependent upon community donations. For more information and to request a Wolverine Weekend Kit when they are available, please read and complete this brief form: http://tiny.cc/wmsweekendkit
Guardians must approve that their scholar is allowed to receive a Weekend Kit prior to receiving one. If you’d like to assist with filling our Community Closet with donations to help make these kits available, check out our Amazon wish list for shopping ideas: http://tiny.cc/wmswishlist
For questions, more information, or if you need additional assistance, contact Mrs. Clarke at: cvtclarke@henrico.k12.va.us or (804) 335-7088-call or text.

Weekly COVID Cases 11/1-11/5
Attendance
It is important that students attend school each day and arrive on time to ensure they are receiving all of their instruction. Please see below for important information regarding attendance.
· School starts at 8:05 each day. Students are considered tardy if they arrive at 8:30 or later.
· Notify the school by calling the front office at (804) 515-1100 if your child will be absent from school. If we are not notified of an absence, your child will be marked absent unexcused automatically.
· Our attendance team regularly monitors student attendance. Families of students with five or more unexcused absences will be required to meet to develop a support plan for attendance.
· If there is anything we can do to support your efforts in making sure your child is at school every day, please reach out to your child’s school counselor or our Family Advocate, Mrs. Clarke!

Screening Tests for Winter Athletics-NEXT STEPS
Athletics plays an important role in the physical, mental, social and leadership development of our students, and Henrico County Public Schools is committed to providing a safe environment for students to compete. As the weather becomes cooler and indoor gatherings increase, HCPS will prioritize the safety of our students and staff members by beginning weekly screening tests for COVID-19 for winter athletes and coaches. Testing is expected to begin November 15at the high school level and November 29 at the middle school level. Athletes and coaches who are fully vaccinated may opt out of COVID-19 screening tests by providing proof of vaccination. Testing will be provided at no charge to families and will be completed by an independent contractor provided through the Virginia Department of Health.
What is screening testing? “Screening testing” means conducting regular COVID-19 tests of people without symptoms, to stop transmission of the virus by catching cases early. By conducting screening tests, we can identify cases where people are asymptomatic or don’t yet have symptoms. Screening testing will help us ensure the safest athletic season possible and minimize potential disruptions and quarantines that could cause athletes and other students to miss instructional time, in addition to lost playing time.
What’s next? Student-athletes are required to submit one parent/guardian consent form to their coach or athletic director to participate in weekly screening testing throughout the season, unless they are fully vaccinated and wish to opt out of the testing. Student-athletes who are fully vaccinated for COVID-19 should submit proof of vaccination to their athletic director to be exempt from weekly screening testing. Fully vaccinated student-athletes who wish to participate in the weekly screening testing may do so but will need to submit a single consent form.
Consent forms for the screening program may be completed electronically at the following website: https://my.primary.health/l/henrico-county-public. This link is specific for HCPS winter athletes and coaching staff. This registration will take no longer than 5 minutes and is only done one time. Paper copies of the consent form are also available from coaches and athletic directors.
Should you have any questions regarding the screening program, please reach out to the school’s athletic director.
Enrichment Opportunity!
Opportunity for Secondary Students to Develop and Fly Experiments in Space: Please see the enclosed information of a great opportunity for middle and high school students. Guided by an educator, sixth to 12th grade student teams affiliated with U.S. public, private, and charter schools can submit ideas for experiments to test on either a suborbital rocket with about three minutes of microgravity (i.e., weightlessness) or a high-altitude balloon with exposure to Earth’s atmosphere and views of our planet.
A panel of judges will review the submitted experiment ideas and select 57 winning entries. Each winning team will receive $1,500 to build their experiment and an assigned spot to test it on a NASA-sponsored suborbital flight operated by one of the following flight providers – Blue Origin, UP Aerospace, or Raven Aerostar.
