Troop 4484 News

February 2016

What have we been up to?

In the month of January, our scouts worked on their Detective (Junior) and Special Agent (Cadette) badges. Juniors have completed their badges, and Cadettes will be completing theirs at the end of the month.

In February, our focus will be on Global World Thinking Day. We will be preparing a poster presentation on the nation of Greece, as well as a recipe for Baklava and some Greek postcard SWAPS to share at the World Thinking Day event at Camp Mary Atkinson.

World Thinking Day

World Thinking Day is celebrated annually on February 22 by Girl Guides and Girl Scouts worldwide. It is a day when scouts and guides think about their "sisters" in all the countries of the world, the meaning of Scouting, and its global impact.

Most recently, World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS) has selected an important international issue as the theme for each year's World Thinking Day, and selected a focus country from each of their five world regions. Girl Guides and Girl Scouts use these as an opportunity to study and appreciate other countries and cultures, and equally increase awareness and sensitivity on global concerns. (Wikipedia)

World Thinking Day @ Camp Mary Atkinson

Saturday, Feb. 20th, 12-4:30pm

8589 North Carolina 42

Selma, NC

Girls will meet at KUMC @ 12:00 p.m. We will depart at 12:15 p.m. for Camp Mary Atkinson. Girls who do not arrive on time will have to be dropped off at CMA and placed in the care of one of our troop leaders.

Our troop will be representing the country of Greece at the event.

Don't forget about these on-going projects...

Penny Wars!

In support of the Girl Scout Family Partnership, we will be participating in PENNY WARS! The goal is to collect $35.00 as a troop to support membership in Girl Scouts for a girl from a low-income family. We're up to $5.16 to date.

Check the couch, the cars, the junk drawers...and (with parent permission) start bringing in your loose change at the next meeting!

50 State SWAP

Our 50 State SWAPS are due next week. If your daughter helped make SWAPS on her own, please bring the completed ones to our next meeting.

Project Linus

We completed our Project Linus blankets in January. The girls did an amazing job creating No-Sew blankets that will be donated on behalf of Troop 4484.

We're still missing a couple blankets, though. If your scout made a blanket over the holiday, please return it at the next meeting.
