A Note from the Principal:
I wish all of you a wonderful Easter weekend and hope this extended time with families is full of joy. Our scholars are out of school this Monday and will return Tuesday, April 11th. As I pause to pen this note on Easter weekend, I can not help but to think of Mrs. Shay Whittaker and the impact she had on me as a leader. She had extremely high expectations and was so dedicated to recrafting the narrative of Cedar Hill High School. Mrs. Whittaker was resilient in wanting her campus to be "The Flagship" campus of this district and she wanted a "Flagship" mentality of everything associated with her scholars and staff. We have made adjustments to our Friday attire for the countdown to STAAR in honor of Mrs. Whittaker and Shay Day as April 14th will be known. The graphic reflects the adjustment.
We, too, are working desperately to responsibly craft the narrative of our campus. We have high expectations, we are committed to teaching and learning in a health environment and we yield to the highest standards for student and staff safety.
This is the first week of the last grading cycle. There are only 7 weeks left of school and each of those weeks are critical. There are no "free days" or "free periods" as every moment in an instructional setting is paramount.
If you're looking for examples of the act of positive narrative crafting, there are several in this newsletter. Our Permenter Honors Band competed in a higher and more rigorous UIL division this year and did a phenomenal job. Our Special Olympics athletes competed in Waxahachie this Thursday. All competed well and some of them won awards! 6th grade scholar Esau Hurd represented our campus and district at the Gen Z Forum in Lancaster this Saturday morning. Please check out CBS' coverage of the event and see a glimpse of Mr. Hurd speaking his perspective and sharing knowledge. We are sooo proud!!
We can't change the narrative without you. Please ponder the question: what is my part in the narrative of Permenter Middle School?
We have a reoccurring safety concern with our scholars before and after school. In the mornings, our scholars who are walkers or car riders and arrive to school before 8:15 are coming to campus and then leaving campus and walking elsewhere. Sometimes the elsewhere is Weaver Park. Sometimes the elsewhere is the adjacent baseball fields. Regardless of their destination, it is not a safe practice. This also occurs after school. Students are leaving school appropriately and then walking back to campus. All of these practices are unsafe and put the well being of our scholars at risk. Please stress the message at home of them begin where they need to be and when they need to be there. Once on the campus grounds, they need to stay on the campus grounds in the morning until the doors open. After school, once they leave the campus they are not to return but instead need to continue their commute safely home.
The CHISD Board of Trustees & Administration have called for a May 2023 bond election. There are several upcoming community events that need volunteers to pass out flyers and handbills or place them on windshields etc. Please sign up to volunteer with CHISD using this form to help share information about the upcoming bond.

- An email was sent to all parents and scholars on 1/03/2023 that provided the recording of the digital town hall meeting as well as new practices beginning the first day of the spring semester. Thank you for your continued support and partnership as we continue to prepare our scholars for their very best.
Faithfully,
Dr. Lemons

A Note from CHHS Athletics:
Dear Scholars and Parents:
We want to ensure all scholars have the opportunity to take part in all events across the district. To ensure scholars are admitted into all athletic events at Cedar Hill High School, all scholars must present a non-torn digital ticket and their current school ID at the student gate. Additionally, all elementary and middle school scholars must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian throughout the entirety of the game. These scholars will enter through the general admission gate. All scholars are welcome to attend and we hope they come to support all of our Longhorn scholar athletes!
