Oprah Winfrey
By: Haley Dinderman
Oprah was born on January 29, 1954 in a small town in Mississippi. She had a rough childhood because she was sexually abused by many of her mother's male relatives and friends. Because of that she moved to Nashville to live with her strict Father. From there she went to Tennessee University to study Radio and Television Broadcasting. In 1976, she hosted her first tv show called People are Talking. She only stayed there for eight years. She was then recruited by a Chicago TV station to host her own morning show, A.M. Chicago. Her success there led her to a leading role in the movie The Color Purple. In 1986 she launched The Oprah Winfrey Show. It was immediately a hit and she was loved for it. She was the first African American women to be a billionaire. She has done many amazing things and is still one of Americas greatest role models.
