Another Unit Complete!
Wrapping up the Strange & Mysterious Short Stories Unit
Strange & Mysterious Short Stories Unit
Over the past two weeks we read the short stories "Bloodstain", "Bubble Bath #3", and "The Girl at the Window". We finished the unit by taking an assessment on "The Most Important Night of Melanie's Life" in which we answered questions similar to the PARCC to prepare us (please see below for more information). Please talk with your child about how they interpreted the stories and the many literary techniques that were used. On the assessment we extended the text and wrote what we believed happened to Melanie, so ask your child what they believe happened to Melanie.
Preparing for the PARCC
First off, what is the PARCC? Please visit this website for more information.
Within the past two weeks we have taken two assessments that are helping us prepare for the PARCC. The first one, the LinkIt! assessment, was not graded, but helps both students and teachers. The students took this assessment independently on their laptops through the online program that contained thirty-five questions. These questions were set up to how the PARCC will be, such as including text and questions on the same browser page. We as teachers are able to then review the data to see how we can better prepare our students. We also took a unit assessment on Strange and Mysterious stories with the same PARCC type questions. Our students worked very hard on these assessments and we are proud of each one of them!

WDHS Marching Band
Last week we had a visit from the West Deptford High School Marching Band in which they advertised their program. Students do not need to have prior band experience in order to be a part of this program.
