May 2020 Bond - Key Leaders Meeting
As key communicators, we hope to see you tonight at the key leaders meeting for the May 2020 Bond Proposal that includes facility improvements and a community pool. We will share information, then work in small groups to discuss the project further and gather input for going forward. The meeting is at 6:30pm at the high school media center.
We'll hand out the following flyer tonight for discussion
OPS Recognizes National School Safety Week
National School Safety Week was October 21-25, but because OPS was off that week for Intersession Week, we are recognizing school safety week with our staff and students this week. Buildings are taking this week to conduct drills, talk with students about school safety and why we prepare for emergencies. We hope you saw the video from Supt. Haase regarding our commitment to school safety.
We shared the video again this week. (See below.)
Nov School Safety Week
School Safety Week Activities
Evacuation drill
Local police and fire assisted, and reviewed procedures, as Dix Street Elementary practiced an off-site evacuation drill.
Tornado Drill
Alamo 1st graders talk about good shelter locations and why after a tornado drill.
Fire Drill
OMS students and staff practice a fire drill. Teachers coordinate with quadrant leaders to communicate.
Fire Safety Focus
October is Fire Safety & Prevention Month. The Otsego and Alamo Township Fire Departments have been great partners with us for October, and this first week into November to get in visits with as many students as possible. It has been wonderful for students to learn about fire safety and prevention face to face with firefighters. Alamo Township spent a day at the school and Otsego firefighters have been making the rounds to Dix Street, Washington Street and Learn 'n Grow preschool stopping in to talk with classrooms. Here are a few pictures from those visits! We are so fortunate to have local fire departments who put an emphasis on educating our students. They all did a great job with the kids!
Stop Drop & Roll Lesson
WSE kindergartners had a chance to try out the fire hose.
Firefighters spend time with kids first explaining their equipment and talking fire safety & prevention.
Students give a firefighter a high five and see what they'd look and sound like in a real emergency.
