MAP Growth Test
Dear Parents,
During the weeks of August 26 and September 9 (please see the schedule below), your child will take a MAP® Growth™ test from NWEA® on a computer or Chromebook. We give students MAP Growth tests to determine their instructional level and to measure academic growth throughout the school year (and from year to year) in Math, Reading, Language, and Science.
MAP Growth tests are unique in that they adapt to your child’s level of learning. If your child answers a question correctly, the next question is more challenging. If they answer incorrectly, the next one is easier. This results in a detailed picture of what your child knows and is ready to learn—whether it is on, above, or below their grade level.
Since MAP Growth tests provide immediate and accurate information about your child’s learning, it’s easy for teachers to identify students with similar scores that are generally ready for instruction in similar skills and topics, and then plan instruction accordingly.
MAP Growth reports also provide typical growth data for students who are in the same grade, subject and have the same starting performance level. Each school year, students take MAP tests in Fall (September) and in Winter (end of January). Following each testing period, you will receive a report showing your child’s growth, which you can review with your child’s teacher for more insight.
MAP scores will be used also for selection for Gifted Talented Program in our school. · Make sure that your child is well-rested on school days, especially the day of the test. Children who are tired are less able to pay attention in class or to handle the demands of a test.
We are truly excited to focus on your child’s individual growth and achievement.

Dear Parents,
This year HST LOTE Spanish Department will continue with the PEN-PAL program (7th grade and 8th grade only).
We are proud to announce that for the first time we will be offering a program for students to study abroad at the University of Salamanca in Spain. (7th grade and 8th grade only).
For more information on the program, please attend the Program meeting next Friday, August 30th.
Please refer to the time slots below to schedule your meeting. We will contact you to confirm the meeting date and time. Thank you.
Ready for 7th Grade?
Dear Parent/Guardian,
The purpose of this letter is to inform you of the immunization requirements that will impact rising 7th-grade students. Students entering 7th grade are required to have one dose of Tdap (Tetanus, Diphtheria, and Pertussis) vaccine and one dose of Meningococcal conjugate vaccine for individuals who have not already received those vaccines.
· Tdap Booster
· Meningococcal ( MCV4, Menactra)
Please contact your health care provider or local health department if your child needs these vaccines. For additional information on immunization requirement, please visit The Department of State Health Services website at www.ImmunizeTexas.com
All immunization should be completed by the first day of school. However, you will have 30 calendar days from the first-day school to provide the required up-to-date immunization record for your child. If at the end of the 30-day period, a student has not received a subsequent dose of vaccine, the student is not in compliance and the school shall exclude the student from the attendance until the required dose is administered. Please contact the school for any questions or concern.
The Due date for immunizations is September 13, 2019.
Sincerely
Ms. Lopez

Harmony Public Schools - Alternate Meals Policy
Nutritious meals are available daily for a price of $1.60 for breakfast, $3.00 for lunch, and $0.50 for a la carte milk. Each student is provided a lunch account on to which money may be deposited. Households are also encouraged to create an account in School Café (www.schoolcafe.com) From here, parents may apply for free or reduced price meals, check account balances, make meal payments, set up automatic alerts, and set up automatic payments. If you need your child’s ID number, please call the school and ask one of the Front Office personnel. Payments may also be made in the Building A, Main Front Office during regular business hours of 7:45 am to 2:15 pm using a credit card, check, or money order. Should a student’s meal account balance fall below $0, he /she will be allowed to charge up to our DISTRICT LIMIT of $ -10. Once the negative meal account balance limit is reached, the student will receive an alternate meal. Alternate meals consist of cereal, fruit, and milk for breakfast; and for lunch, a sandwich, vegetable, and milk. If a student is later approved for free meals, they will begin receiving meals immediately. However, the household is still responsible for paying the negative account balance. For more information regarding the meal charge policy, please visit our website at: https://hsthouston.harmonytx.org/
ATTENTION: Students are not allowed to purchase a la carte items if their account has a $0 or negative balance. If they are purchasing a milk, we will allow them one charge as a courtesy. The Lunch Clerk will inform the student and parent that there must be funds in the meal account for a la carte purchases. The next attempt to purchase a la carte items will be denied until the account shows a positive balance.
The district charge limit applies to reimbursable meals only and not a la carte purchases.
Meal Payments
Online: Log in to your School Café account and make a payment. Please be advised that parents are charged a 5% convenience fee for making a payment through School Cafe. The minimum payment is $20.
At school: Bring a check, credit/debit card, or money order to Building A Main Front Office. The payment will be logged and a receipt will be given to the person making the payment. It can take up to 3 days from the date the front desk takes the payment to the account reflecting that payment.
