In alignment with TEA, CFISD has updated the protocol for informing parents about positive COVID cases at the campus. Last year, a notification letter was sent to the entire campus community informing you of a positive case. This year the email will be sent only to students/staff in the same class as the positive case. This does not mean your child had direct contact with the positive case. It is simply a letter to let you know someone in the same class tested positive. This letter does not imply that your child needs to isolate or quarantine, we are simply providing information and ask that you monitor your child for any symptoms. Please visit our District LEAD Safely page for more details. The CFISD Covid 19 dashboard is updated daily. The dashboard includes all reported positive cases district-wide, including staff who are not assigned to classrooms. Please see the information linked below.

Student Safety

Student safety is a top priority at Farney Elementary. If you plan to visit our school, please have your picture ID available every time you are here. When you ring the doorbell, front desk personnel will ask the nature of your visit. Please respond in the intercom. Once access is granted, please enter the security vestibule. Visitors are encouraged to wear a mask.

Release of Information Forms

If you need Behavior Rating Scales completed or want the school to communicate with an outside entity, private tutor, doctor, etc., you will need to complete a Release of Information form for this school year. You can request this form through the counseling office. When asking teachers to complete Behavior Rating Scales, you will need to give one week’s notice to allow teachers ample time to complete the forms. These forms will be faxed directly to the doctor’s office and you will be notified once this is completed.

Core Essentials

Each month we will have a new core value. Students will learn about the new word in their

weekly classroom meetings and discuss how they can use it to be amazing Farney Falcons!

September’s Core Value is Initiative!

Initiative means seeing what needs to be done and doing it.

Now recruiting WATCH DOGS!

Our Watch Dog program consists of Dads or Father Figures of Great Students who volunteer one day at their child’s school. They will perform a variety of tasks including assisting with the car line in the morning, eating lunch with their child, monitoring the cafeteria and helping in their child’s classroom. Right now we are collecting emails for our Watch Dog database. If you are interested and haven’t already, please complete the registration link below to add your name and email to our list. We will be sending a sign-up link towards the end of September for dads to pick their date on the calendar. Please contact sandra.ayala@cfisd.net or shannon.zepeda@cfisd.net if you have any questions. We look forward to your participation and hope to see many dads at Farney Elementary!

From the Nurse

If you have any gently used shorts (XS-XL) that you would like to donate, please send them clean and ready to go in a bag labeled to the school nurse. These help us when students have accidents, spills, mud, etc.

As a reminder, the school day starts promptly at 8:40 a.m. each morning. In order to minimize any disruption to the instructional day, students are encouraged to arrive on time. Students who arrive after 8:40 a.m. must be walked into the building and signed in at the front desk by a parent or guardian.

Morning Drop Off Safety

If you are dropping your child off for school in the morning, please be sure to use the car rider line at the front of the school. Due to safety concerns, students are not permitted to be dropped off in bus loading zones. There are also supervised crosswalks on Spring Barker and Barker Cypress that students may use to safely cross the street if they are Hiker/Bikers. We have had several close calls where students are crossing these busy streets in places other than the crosswalks in the morning. Our #1 priority is the safety of all of our Farney Falcons.

Lunch Visitors

Parents and guardians are invited to visit during lunch. Any other visitors (grandparents, siblings, friends, etc.), must be accompanied by the parent or guardian or have a note giving them permission to eat with the child for each visit. In accordance with CFISD policy, school-age children are not permitted to visit the campus at any time. Due to food and nutrition guidelines, you may bring lunch for your child only. For your convenience, there are tables reserved for you to enjoy lunch with your child. Teachers will call the “Farney Five” at the end of lunch to signal when it is time for your child to say a quick goodbye and rejoin his/her class.

Birthday Celebrations

Student birthdays are acknowledged at school during the morning announcements and in the classroom. Students and teachers may not distribute invitations (or forward email invitations) to personal parties at school. We do not deliver gifts such as flowers, balloons, etc. You might consider purchasing a birthday book for your child. See the flyer below for details. Due to health regulations, cakes, cupcakes, favors, etc., are not permitted. If you'd like your child to celebrate with his/her class, treats may be purchased from the cafeteria 5 days in advance. Contact martha.santacruz@cfisd.net for details.

We have SO many opportunities for you to volunteer at Farney! We encourage you to get involved in any way you can. If you cannot come in to the school during the day, we have brown bag projects that can be sent home. A strong home/school partnership means success for our children. For more information go to www.farneypto.com.

Amazon Smile

Do you shop on Amazon? Simply go to smile.amazon.com and type Farney Elementary PTO in the search box. Once you select Farney a portion of your purchase will be donated to Farney every time you shop! You only have to designate Farney the first time, after that, you will go to smile.amazon.com each time to start your order.

To earn money for our school each time you shop, simply register your Kroger card (cards have to be registered EACH year) online: www.krogercommunityrewards.com

All you need is your phone! Download the Box Tops app, shop as you normally would, then use the app to scan your store receipt within 14 days of purchase. The app will identify Box Tops products on your receipt and automatically credit your school’s earnings online. Twice a year, your school will receive a check and can use that cash to buy whatever it needs!
