News You Can Use

Happy Holidays from the SLS Team!

As 2019 winds down and a new year is about to begin, it is time to reflect on the year that was.

It was a year of goodbyes and a year of hellos. While Jane left us to work at the New York State Library, Amanda joined us from Troy Middle School and has hit the ground running. We have several new librarians in the region who we said hello to this year as they started our mentor program and it has been a joy to see them acclimate to their new positions.

It was a year of new initiatives too. We began using the Library Resource Manager for database ordering and more. The Reimagined Empire State Information Fluency Continuum was revealed in August and rolled out in October. The School Library Program Rubric was finished as well with a roll out date of Spring 2020 (hopefully).

The SLS team wants to thank every one of you for your hard work and dedication to students, libraries, and the profession. Because of you, the world is a better place. We hope that you enjoy the extra long break. Happy holidays and best wishes for a wonderful new year!

Model Schools - Google Chrome (Web) Extensions

Google Extensions like Screencastify and Screenast-O-Matic can bring support to English Language Learners, students struggling with a concept or teachers wanting to support a more flipped environment. If you are a language teacher, Special Education Teacher or any grade level teacher, these extensions can help you and your classroom or your communication with students, staff and even community members. We can even look at other similar apps that can make a difference with students and staff members.

Please note, each district may make their own decisions on these extensions regarding Ed Law 2D. These workshops are guides to these resources.
