SMART PROGRAM UPDATE

The SMART Program is an $800 million bond that provides critically needed funding for Broward County Public Schools. SMART addresses elements of Safety, Music & Art, Athletics, Renovations, and Technology at schools across the District.

The Renovations element of the SMART Program largely focuses on improving schools and the educational experience of students. A six-step process is put in place to ensure that all Primary Renovation projects are completed efficiently. Deerfield Beach High School is in Design for Phase I of its Primary Renovations and Hire Designer for Phase II. This means that while construction drawings are being prepared for part of the upcoming renovations, the school is seeking to hire a designer for a separate project.

  • Roof repairs and HVAC

Primary Renovations- Phase 2

  • Bldg envelope improvements (roof, window, ext. wall, etc.)
  • Electrical improvements
  • Media center improvements
  • Safety/ Security upgrades
  • STEM lab improvements

As part of the School Choice Enhancement Program (SCEP), schools are allocated $100,000 to spend at their discretion. Common uses of the funds include laptops, golf carts, projectors, and classroom furniture for students and teachers.
