BCIT Brief
June 2016, Edition #19
Message from Dr. Christopher M. Manno
Dear BCSSSD and BCIT School Communities:
It is with mixed emotions that I write my final letter to the Burlington County Institute of Technology and Burlington County Special Services school communities. I shall always fondly recall my time serving as your Superintendent of Schools.
We have experienced so many successes, many challenges, and much growth. We have implemented new, exciting and worthwhile programs, expanded partnerships and marketing efforts, improved policies and processes, completed numerous capital projects and technology initiatives, and improved safety and security for students and staff. These results are attributed to so many dedicated school community members: our Board of Education, our school leaders, and our teachers and other staff members.
During my time with BCIT and BCSSSD, I have continuously been inspired and motivated by the many teachers, staff members, school leaders, and volunteers who quietly go above and beyond to serve our children, families, and community. Their commitment to allowing our students to Discover their Potential allows me to leave my post knowing together we made a difference. Most importantly, I have been inspired by our students. Their passion, resilience, and talents have fueled my desire for our work together.
It has been an incredible and sacred honor to serve these great school communities in the capacity of Superintendent. Please accept my most sincere and heartfelt thanks for the opportunity to serve and work with all of you.
In Service and Gratitude,
Dr. Christopher Manno,
Superintendent of Schools

End of Year Blast (Off)!
First year students in the Architecture and Design Technology program at BCIT Westampton were introduced to model rocket design as a culminating project for the school year. The activity helps reinforce and bring relevance to many of the ideas covered in the program. Students designed, sketched and dimensioned many of their own unique parts including the fins and nose cone. These parts were then created on a 3D printer or by other processes. Along the way, students were exposed to concepts of sizing, part compatibility, material selection and fabrication techniques.
The completed rockets were certified against a checklist composed of some twenty items to ensure airworthiness. Here students learn about assembly techniques and quality assurance. Finally, the rockets are given a test flight to see if they can perform flawlessly from a smooth burn lift-off to an intact parachute recovery. Not every rocket works perfectly, but all of the students profit from a fun experience.
Next year, the class is hoping to build on their skills and enter the Team America Rocketry Challenge ( www.rocketcontest.org), a national competition that includes teams from all over the USA.

BCIT Foundation Donations update from Director, Renee Janowicz
Here are photos of the new big-vehicle lift the Foundation provided our Westampton Campust, and the new simulated auto-paint sprayer we provided for our Medford Campus Automotive Collision Repair Technology classroom.
We received kind words for the computers we bought the Dental Occupations program. In addition, we heard from our Electronics students that they love the instructional kits we provided. We ordered history materials for the Westampton teaching staff and handed out the first of several scholarships to BCIT grads.
This is why we raise money all year!
TRIBUTE BRICKS make great Birthday, Holiday and Graduation gifts!
Engraved bricks can mark a memory, honor a loved one, or commemorate a special occasion. They are placed within existing walkways near the front entrances of either Medford or Westampton campus, reflecting the legacy of BCIT.
Bricks can be ordered in two sizes, plus a mini replica to keep at home. Details and the order form are on the web pages of the BCIT Foundation.
Let us know if you'd like a personalized certificate to present for an occasion! Call the BCIT Foundation at (609) 267-4226, ext. 8335.
