A Peek at Our Week
Writing: This week, finished our nonfiction writing unit! Students chose their best All About books to revise and edit. We celebrated our writers hard work by sharing our best All About books with our classmates. Students learned that a good All About book has a table of contents, a catchy introduction, lots of facts (with headings that match the table of contents), and a conclusion. Next week, we will begin our opinion writing unit...Opinion writing! Please refer to the note below (also sent home earlier this week) for the required collection of items. We need these items no later than Monday.
Math: This week, students learned an easier way to draw a math picture! We practiced drawing quick tens to represent a 2 digit number. Quick tens use lines to represent the tens and circles to represent the ones. For example, the number 34 would be drawn with 3 vertical lines for the tens and 4 circles for the ones. Students are learning that we can compare two digit numbers and describe them using the words greater than and less than. An example of quick tens is below.
Word Study: This week, we continued to work with long vowels, but we are now shifting away from "momma e" and into other ways a vowel can make the long sound. This week, students worked with long a words spelled with ay and ai. Next week, we will explore long e spelled with ee and ea.

5 Essentials Survey
Hello Grand Prairie Families and Friends!
We invite all families to take a few minutes to complete the Illinois 5 Essentials Parent Survey for our school. Your feedback is very important, and we need at least 20% of our families to participate to receive results. Currently, we are only at 11% family participation. The link to the survey can be found by scanning the QR code below.
We greatly appreciate you taking the time to share your feedback!
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR PARTNERSHIP AND SUPPORT!
