Our featured speaker, Henry Silberstern was 12 years old when the Nazis transported his mother and him to the Terezin (Theresienstadt) Ghetto, a model camp which the Nazis created to deceive the world into believing they were treating Jews humanely. Later Henry was sent to Auschwitz-Birkenau where he was one of 89 Jewish boys who were singled out by the infamous "Angel of Death" Dr. Joseph Mengele for slave labor. No one knows why the boys were permitted to survive. Of the 15,000 children under the age of 15 who were sent "East", less than 150 survived. Henry is one of those children.
