Egg Harbor Township High School
Week of April 10, 2022
A MESSAGE FROM OUR PRINCIPAL
Greetings,
On Tuesday, April 12, students in grades 9-11 in the Hispanohablantes program learned from Guest Speakers, Mrs. Jenny Dilks (Spanish teacher at Fernwood MS) and Ms. Paola Florido (High School Spanish teacher) about preparing for graduation and life after graduation. They discussed the district’s PACE program for students who may wish to enter the workforce after graduation. They discussed ways in which students’ Guidance Counselors can help them, what GPA is, why tests like the PSAT and SAT can help them get into college, what scholarships are, etc. They explained the importance of taking advantage of the many opportunities here at EHTHS, including Dual Credit classes. For students planning to go to college, they shared what colleges are looking for, what the Common App is, and what are some resources that can help them pay for college. The presentation was jam-packed with useful information. Thank you, Ms. Florido and Mrs. Dilks!
Also on April 12, 100 French students from Fernwood & Alder visited the High School for a fun-filled day of French, led by the High School students. Students used French in different stations, all focused on spontaneous use of the language. Students took part in authentic, cultural French games, trivia games, STEM challenges, and so much more! The HS students gave them a tour of EHTHS and explained the Seal of Biliteracy program. It was a fantastic way to bridge our middle school and high school program! Bravo to the HS students who did such a great job leading the stations. French Fun Day promotes a positive culture and community among our French students while expanding their cultural knowledge and perspectives of French and francophone cultures.
The 2022-23 Teachers of the Year and Educational Professionals were recognized at the Board of Education Meeting on Tuesday, April 12. Congratulations to Mr. Jason Kristeller (Social Studies Teacher) the EHTHS Teacher of the Year for 2022-2023 and Mr. Joe Mohnacs (Paraprofessional) the Educational Professional of the Year for 2022-2023.
On April 13, our sophomore students participated in the PSAT testing. Students took the test at the start of school and it lasted about 3 hours. Upon our return from Spring break we will be preparing for our AP tests which will begin May 2.
Remember that school is closed Friday, April 15 and all next week April 15 - 22. Classes resume at regular time on Monday, April 25.
Have a safe and healthy Spring Break! Continue to dream of the possibilities ahead of us, be happy and smile at someone!
Ms. Connor

Congratulations to you both!!

COMMUNITY PRIDE
Student Assistance Program and Resources

The High School has adopted a new bullying-prevention program for this school year!
#DAY1--a staff and student-led philosophy that will serve to foster a building-wide atmosphere of kindness and inclusion.
This program was started a few years ago in Bergen County by the Tyler Clementi Foundation and has gained momentum throughout the state and country for use in schools, community groups, workplaces, and sports teams. We even have 3 of our own students who were selected by the foundation as leaders for this initiative!
The premise is simple: the adults in the building make a “declaration statement” about behavior that is expected, as well as behavior that is unacceptable, and we all pledge to conduct ourselves accordingly. This includes seeking help when we witness unacceptable behavior occurring.
This notion is called being an #Upstander.
Has your student taken their #Upstander Pledge yet?!?
Have them sign into their school account and click here! 😊
If you'd like more information on #Day1, please go to: https://tylerclementi.org/day1/
