Principal's Message

Dear SMG Families,

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for your incredible and generous support as we kicked off the St. Maria Goretti Catholic School Annual Fund with North Texas Giving Day last Thursday. Together, we raised $43,411.00!! With additional contributions that came directly to the school that day, plus matching funds from companies of several of you who contributed, the actual total is $45,199.56! That is almost half-way toward our Annual Fund goal of $100,000!

As we stated in our Annual Fund mailing that was sent to SMG families last week and on our NTXGD page, a few of the ways we plan to use monies raised through our annual fund this year include:

  • Enhancing School Security: adding a Visitor Management system; building improvements/changes to update and improve school security.
  • Enhancing and updating Curriculum Resources, particularly in the areas of math, science, and writing.
  • Offering additional Professional Development opportunities to faculty & staff
  • Updating school material & equipment resources, such as new lunchroom tables

The 2018-2019 Annual Fund campaign will run through March 1, 2019 with funds being collected through May, 2019. So, if you missed giving on NTXGD, there is still plenty of time and many other opportunities in which to contribute!

One of our biggest community-building events of the year, Kountry Karnival 2018, is fast approaching! Our students, families, and staff look forward to this event every year. Please recognize that your participation and involvement in Kountry Karnival is imperative to making the event a success and it directly benefits our school. Please visit the link listed below for more information and ways to get involved.

  • We will celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi with Mass on Thursday, October 4th. We will not attend Mass as a school on Wednesday that week. Please be sure students wear their Mass uniform on Thursday, instead of Wednesday, that week.
  • Kountry Karnival: Students may wear their KK t-shirts with uniform bottoms every Monday in September. During the week of October 1st, students may wear their t-shirt with school bottoms everyday except Thursday (Mass Uniform).
  • No school and no SMEED this Friday, September 28th; teacher inservice
  • Pet Blessing @ 11AM and Early dismissal @ 12:10PM on Friday, October 5th.

Have a wonderful and blessed week ahead!

St. Maria Goretti, Pray for Us!

Laura Behee. M.Ed.

Junior High Retreats

Last week, Catholic Charities was on campus as our 7th Grade students participated in the "Poor and Vulnerable" homeless similuation. As well, our 6th & 7th Grade students, along with their teachers, participated in a retreat the week before last (9/14). Both experiences were opportunities for students to grow in their faith, and to develop empathy and compassion for others and those less fortunate. Please enjoy a few pictures from both experiences below.
