Mrs. Le's First Grade
We Have Been Working On...
During our literacy and writing time, we have wrapped up our drafts to our Mo Willems inspired stories and begun transferring it to the publishing stages. We have worked really hard on providing lots of detail and doing our best work to publish our books. Next week the children will have the opportunity to share their books with their kindergarten book buddies and then their books will be displayed outside our hallway. Come check them out!
During our math time, Ms. Ellwood has begun teaching Unit 8 Geometry. The children have learned about polygons, halves and fourths. Ask your little one about these vocabulary words. They have split a cookie in half, discussed math vocabulary for halves, fourths and whole as well as completed sorting work that differentiates between halves and fourths. She will continue teaching Unit 8 into next week.
In the afternoon, Mrs. Ellwood has been taking over our science unit with our Habitat Research Projects. Next week, once the projects have been completed, you will receive a newsletter from Ms. Ellwood explaining her teaching week and what the children have been working on.
We had a library lesson with Mrs. Hutcherson this week as we continued our discussion about non fiction text features. The children looked through books as they identified the table of contents, headings, bold print, captions, labels, glossary and index.
