Parent and Community Weekly Newsletter

February 1-5, 2016

Dear Parents and Community Members,

I am so happy to be sitting in my office right now writing this, as the scene outside my window makes me feel like I am in a snow globe. This week we started with our monthly all school assembly, where we meet together as a school to celebrate each other. This week we had a group of 6th graders share their community service project (see below). We also had a 4th grader, Paige, share some research she did on her own about Thomas Edison, a person who failed more time than he succeeded!

If you don't already know, our theme with students this year is growth mindset, which simply is the idea that our brains are like muscles and to grow our brains and keep them healthy, we have to work them out daily by challenging ourselves and taking risks. We can do anything if we are willing to work through the struggle and tell ourselves that we may not be able to do something...YET, but with hard work it can and will be done.

I showed the video posted below at our assembly and will continue to show episodes in coming months. Please watch, share, and discuss with your children. There is a tremendous amount of research coming out about the growth mindset and how the brain changes throughout a person's life. If you are looking for more resources or would like to know more, please reach out to me. I have plenty!

Warmest regards,

Christopher Dodge
