Message from the Principal
Dear Wildcat Families,
The Georgia Department of Education released the CCRPI (College and Career Ready Performance Index) reports in the fall for two categories: Content Mastery and Readiness. Because this is a baseline year, schools will not have full reports for Progress and Closing Gaps until next year.
What is Content Mastery? Content Mastery addresses whether students are achieving at the level necessary to be prepared for the next grade, college, or career. This component includes achievement scores in English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science. Our school score is 100!
What is Readiness? The elementary and middle-school levels include literacy scores and data on the percentage of students passing “Beyond the Core” instruction. Beyond the Core at the elementary level includes fine arts, world language, and computer science, and at the middle school level fine arts, world language, physical education/health, career exploratory, and computer science. At the high-school level, Readiness includes literacy scores, pathway completion data, and accelerated enrollment data.
Typically, attendance (staff and students) is included in readiness, but this was not factored in our overall score for 2022. Our school score is 91.7 with the following breakdown: Literacy-83.8 and Beyond the Core -99.61 (at Wilson Creek that is the percentage of students receiving a grade in fine arts).
What is Progress? For 2022, the only progress measure we received was for our English Language Learners. English Language Proficiency measures whether students are improving within a performance band or moving up to another performance band, thus moving towards English language proficiency.
For the 2021-2022 school year, we received a score of 100+ !
I am proud of all that our students accomplished last year. With the work that we are now doing with our new literacy resources, interventions, enrichment, common assessment and unit assessment analysis, rigorous instruction for all, relationships and more, I have no doubt that we will continue to excel in all categories.

We welcome all student to participate in the Fulton County Young Georgia Authors Writing Competition. This will not be a class activity and students are encouraged to complete it at home. We can't wait to see what our students will create!
General Info:
Any (K-12) school can participate in YGA. However, this is not a requirement.
Each school can submit (1) entry per grade level to the county level.
(1) entry per grade level will be selected at the county level to go to the state.
Attach a fully completed entry form for each submission
(forms available at the front desk or through your child's teacher)
Entries are due to the Curriculum Support Teacher, Marla Grosswald, by January 27
The purpose of the YGA Writing K-12 Competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics.
Local School General Rules:
Unlike many writing competitions, the YGA does not provide a prompt to which students must respond or provide any other boundaries to their genre choice or creativity beyond 1900 words.
Entries may include:
- Short Stories
- Poetry
- Essays/Literary Criticism/Analysis
- Journalism
- Academic/Research Reports
- Personal Narratives

2) The maximum length is 1900 words. If typed, font must be no smaller than 12 point and writing must be doubled spaced. If your submission nears the 1900 word maximum, please include a word count.
3) Dictated stories must follow the approved state testing accommodation guidelines for dictation.
4) Do not bind, make a cover for, laminate, or otherwise alter the original paper on which the entry is written. Use paper clips or binder clips. Do not use staples.

Character Word of the Month-Perseverance
Some ways you help with perseverance at home is:
- Resist Rescuing Immediately. Give them the chance to struggle a little because it may be all they need to succeed in that situation.
- Encourage your Child to Try New Things. Encouraging them to take on a new challenge and give examples of times you struggled with a new challenge and succeeded.
- Teach Practical Problem-solving. Before frustration sets in, help them come up with other ways to solve the problem. This can give them a chance to think of other ways to reach the goal.
- Practice Positive Sayings. Sometimes children are quick to give up, saying, “I can’t!” Help them by changing the statement into “I can’t, YET!” Remind them of past successes and how they overcame challenges before and can do it again. Often helping change the negative statements into positive statements will help them persevere a little longer.
- Remind them of their Successes. When children are reminded of past successes when they struggled, but persevered, they are often willing to keep with it a little longer. When they finally succeed in their current venture, you can praise their efforts and recognize their perseverance amid a challenge.
- Celebrate the wins, no matter how small!
