Jimmie Journal
News You Need to Know about JHS!--March 2021
Welcome to March
We survived a cold and snowy February, and I am hoping March brings us some sun and mild temperatures. I usually enjoy this month because March Madness is always exciting, and Spring Training is in full swing. Of course that means warm weather is not far behind. In fact, Spring officially starts on March 20th--I am ready.
Here at JHS there is much going on as well. We wrap up the 3rd grading period on March 12, spring sports are officially practicing, our bands have some performances set up, and we will have the Jimmie Olympics later this month. Our students continue to have opportunities to engage at Jimtown in a number of ways. Furthermore, March will see the pandemic's one year anniversary--not one we really wish to celebrate. A year ago school was turned on its ear, and students lost so many opportunities. I am very happy to announce that we are working on plans for many things we missed last year--we will have a prom and a car show! We have some information below, but stay tuned for more details in the near future about each of those events.
At this point, I can't help but think of Alexander Pope's words from his work "An Essay on Man": “Hope springs eternal ..." It is spring. It is time to start anew. It is a time to be optimistic. I hope we will soon be talking about the pandemic and the last year in the past tense--as a memory we look back on. However, until then we will continue to do our part to end this thing! I appreciate the cooperation of everyone during what has been a trying time. We continue to persevere thanks to students, staff, and parents.
In an effort to get back to normal, I will start thinking about filling out my March Madness bracket, and maybe I'll pester Coach Stoner to see if he'll let me throw out the first pitch. Until next time, be well Jimmies!
We are Jimtown!

This month we like to recognize Business Teacher Walter Lehman as our Employee of the Month for March. Mr. Lehman quietly goes about his work, but he is good at what he does. Furthermore, he has stepped up lately to help out in a couple different ways, and we wish to recognize him for that.
Thank you for all you do and CONGRATULATIONS!
ATTENTION SENIORS and Senior Parents: Yearbook Needs your Picture
Thank you for your attention to this matter.
Things to Come--Signs of Normalcy!
FIRST, Jimmie Olympics returns the week of March 22. This event is usually held earlier in the winter, but we pushed it back to try to ensure we had an opportunity to allow students to participate in all aspects--especially the pep session at the end of the week. Stay tuned for more information!
NEXT, we are planning on having prom. Again, we will have to work through some of the logistics as we still need to meet social distancing mandates. There may still be some restrictions, but we are happy to be able to offer the event. Circle May 8th on your calendar. Stay tuned for more information!
FINALLY, the Jimtown Car and Cycle Show is a go. We are planning this for May 15th. We continue to develop plans for this as we speak, which include a live stream of the event! Stay tuned for more information!
8th Grade Orientation Is Quickly Approaching
During this presentation, families will learn about:
- Graduation Pathways
- Diploma Types and Credits
- The Social and Academic Transition to High School
- Extra Curricular Opportunities
The transition from junior high to high school is a significant one, and we believe the freshman year of high school to be the most important one. Students who fall behind their freshman year increase the likelihood they will not graduate in four year. This is why we hope families can attend to make the transition to JHS a smooth and productive one.
Upcoming Hearing Screenings
Poor hearing can negatively impact learning.

NHS Blood Drive is Near
The National Honor Society will host a school blood drive, for staff and students, with the American Red Cross on March 24th from 8:00 to 1:00pm.
The NHS is committed to strengthening our community and helping meet hospital and patient needs through blood donations. This blood drive is our way of giving students and staff an opportunity to help save lives.
Blood is a perishable product that can only come from volunteer blood donors. With someone in the U.S. needing blood every two seconds, blood products must be constantly replenished, according to the Red Cross.
Students and Staff will need to sign up with a NHS member and fill out the necessary paperwork, including parent permission for those 16 years of age.
