Our 18-19 Journey Begins.........
Classroom Culture is directly connected to Sense of Belonging and Achievement Levels
U6 - Creating a classroom atmosphere, where teachers deliberately balance caring relationships and supports for student success, provides a foundation for a safe learning environment that values diversity, trust and respectful communication.
18-19...Clarity of Instructional Focus w/Data Analysis
Clarity of Daily Learning Intentions
Teacher Clarity...How do you know students "got" the day's learning intention?
Though we are still working on beginning of the year procedures and protocols, this is the perfect time to ensure students KNOW the WHY and the significance of the structure or protocols you are teaching to support daily learning/engagement and maximum results in achievement levels.
Beginning and ending each period (MS) and or portion(s) of the day's schedule(ES) with the learning intention: What, Why and How is key!
Not only is it important for students to know what they are learning, why they are learning and how they are showing understanding(success criteria) but it is equally as important for the teacher to be mindful of knowing if students actually got it. In daily/weekly planning, assessment of the day's learning is the beginning stage vs the ending stage in planning.
Monitoring instruction during and at the end of a lesson is important to drive instructional decisions and next step planning. What ways do you assess learning? Here are a couple of examples of assessing students learning that are purposefully planned: Turn/Talk with partner, Whole group discussion and share out, STOPLIGHT:Red/Yellow/Green, Post It Notes, 4 Corners, Exit Tickets, Google Forms, application through problem solving, quick writes, quizzes, etc
Grade Level Meetings: September 5 & 12

Technology Used Appropriately is an ENHANCEMENT
"Tech Integration - As we move toward a more regular and consistent use of technology as part of the instructional program please be mindful of the following:
All technology should be apart of clear learning intention.
1. While working with "online" supplemental resources (RAZ, LEXIA Core 5, DreamBox or Khan) practice or review - students should have scratch paper to work out problems.
2. Teacher is monitoring the "online" learning environment and taking notice of how students are responding to questions and or having 1:1 "in the moment" questioning of students responses.
3. While doing reading online there should be and opportunity in which there is an interruption by teacher with a standards driven question to engage students in whole group or a partnered discussion/summary/analysis about the online reading. Reading online is an important skill however students must still make meaning through discussion opportunities.
It’s all about the “new” details….be in the know with LBUSD updates
