Reminders
- Please check your child's planner to monitor their behavior chart. Many kids have received letters this quarter. We are seeing many are due to classroom behaviors. If you see a B, it is most likely due to disturbing the learning process. You can talk with your child as to why they may have certain letters.
- When going through your child's trapper, make sure they are with you and are not throwing away important paperwork.
- Daily Homework includes: Reading and Reflex Math
Math
All students are now working on fractions in some capacity. Please have a conversation with your child as to where they are at and how you can help them. Fractions can be a daunting topic for some, but the more practice, the easier they will become. Here are the units we are covering right now:
Topic 7: Use Equivalent Fractions to Add and Subtract Fractions and Mixed Numbers
Topic 8: Apply Understanding of Multiplication to Multiply Fractions

ELA
We are finishing our unit on text structure next week. The plan is to assess on Thursday. The kids have learned about 5 text structures and are applying one of these to their research project. We have covered descriptive, chronological, cause and effect, problem and solution, and compare and contrast.
Remember to have your child read every night. Their homework expectation is that they do read and meet their AR goal. The kids have their new AR goals set and many are already doing great on this. As we approach the end of the school year and the weather gets better, kids struggle to make time to read. Gentle reminders may help with this. Our last day for AR will be May 24th.
In writing, we will begin our final unit on feature articles. This is our informational piece. You should have seen your child's research plan. If you have not, it should be in their planner. Please assist your child in research at home due to our limited technology resources. At this time a due date is not set. I will take a look at research progress next Friday and I hope to have an idea of when we can have this assignment due. Thank you for all your help!!
Science
In Science students are learning about renewable vs. nonrenewable resources, and how human activities affect Earth's resources and environments. We will conclude with this unit next week, and will plan on testing next Friday!
Social Studies
We are approaching the end of part one of the Road to Independence unit. We have looked at how and why the colonists are rebelling against King George III. The kids are really intrigued about this unit. We had a fun activity on taxation this week. Ask your child about this. The plan is to test on Thursday as long as everything goes as plan. We will review on Wednesday. Each student will have a study guide to practice.
We are two weeks from the project due date. I know many have began, but more said they have not. Check with your child to see what their plan is. Again, thank you for all your help. It is a big undertaking for all involved.
