Mr. Corso’s Principal’s Message
Positive Raiders: Responsible, Respectful, Hard Working and Kind
On Monday, Feb. 1, some small groups of students will be returning to BMMS for instruction. Those families that are returning have been contacted. We are working hard to get as many students back on campus as possible. We will be contacting more families when we are able to support their children on campus. A/B Cohorts can only return five days after San Diego County returns to the Red Tier. We appreciate your patience and support.
Next week at a Glance:

Thursday 2/4: Start at 8am Homeroom plus Periods 4/5-7
Friday 2/5: Asynchronous Day - TT
Friday’s Pro Grow Day: On Friday, our staff was working while students had the day off. Our focus was on microaggressions: learn what microaggressions are and how they occur in our everyday lives, reflect on ways we have experienced microaggressions in our lives and explore ways to counteract microaggressions on an individual and society level. It was a day well spent. Thank you for the opportunity for our staff to be involved in this training on a Friday.
Office Hours: Office Hours are Monday-Thursday and they are a part of the school day. Students should be reaching out to teachers to ask questions. Teachers are inviting students to office hours. Two of the best ways to do better in school during virtual instruction is #1 Turn Your Camera On! and #2 Attend Office Hours.
Yearbook Link: We know you are out there. Help us create our Yearbook this year by submitting pictures here LINK. Please submit appropriate photos of BMMS students that can be shared in our Yearbook.
Shortened February Break: A reminder to families that the 2021 February break has been shortened from five days off to just two days off due to COVID-related adjustments to the 2020-21 school year calendar. There is no school on Monday, February 15 and Friday, February 19 due to the observance of Washington’s and Lincoln’s birthdays. However, school will be in session Tuesday through Thursday, February 16 through February 18, so students are expected to attend class on those three days. Spring Break remains the same, Monday, April 12 through Friday, April 16. The last day of school was changed to Friday, June 18, 2021. You can view the official District calendar here.
I wish your family all my best,
Principal, Black Mountain Middle School
The Big I.D.E.A. shares about Black History Month
Our Big IDEA Committee created a video to share with our community why it is important to celebrate Black History Month. Check it out here...LINK
One of our students who is in the Big IDEA (we’re always looking for new members, email firstname.lastname@example.org if interested) created a watch list for families to celebrate Black History Month. Here it is...Way to go Rontae!
Racial Justice Challenge
On Monday in Homeroom, BMMS will introduce the Racial Justice Challenge. Students are challenged to pick one of the two options below...Create a performance piece to help our community understand the message of an Amanda Gorman poem or Design a creative response to these Questions for Action. The Challenge will be an optional assignment sent to all students through Canvas in February 2021. Submissions due March 5. No grades will be associated with the Challenge.
While we are able to provide hand sanitizer stations across our campus, many students and teachers find classroom sanitizer bottles to be very helpful and convenient. Some families have asked how they can help support students and staff returning to campus. One way to help is by donating gel (not foam) sanitizers (individual or refill bottles) such as these found at Home Depot, Amazon, or many other grocery and discount stores. Hand Sanitizer Donations can be dropped off in the Front Office school days 7:30am-3pm. Our staff and students thank you.
