Wellington ES Counseling Corner
LISD Guidance and Counseling 4/27 - 5/1
Hi Friends!
We hope your at-home lessons are going well! We hope you had a wonderful weekend full of fun things like playing outside or a card game with your family! All of your counselors are thinking of you each day and we are here for you if you need us. You can email your counselor if you or your family need support. Remember we are all in this together and we WILL see you all soon!
Mindful Monday
Take a listening walk
Take a walk with your kids in silence, listening for sounds you typically overlook: leaves rustling, a pine cone falling from a tree, your own steady breath. To enhance the quietest sounds (and make it more fun), you can turn paper cups into amplifiers by cutting a hole in the sides of two cups and hooking them over your ears, drinking side facing forward.
Talk About It Tuesday
Communicate
Make intentional communication a regular part of your day. Simply ask your child to describe their day and listen carefully and non-judgmentally, taking the time to reflect on what they said to show you were paying attention. Need a few more interesting ways to communicate?
Try some of these questions: Tell me which emotions you felt today and how they came about?
What is your favorite thing to do at home? Describe what you like about yourself? Who do you look up to?
Wellness Wednesday
Think About It Thursday
Thinking Thursday Challenge:
Pick and answer one or more questions from the following list of “IFs.”
1) If you could physically transport yourself to any place in the world at this moment, where would you go?
2) If you could live the life of any fictional character, which character would it be? why?
3) If you could be one article of clothing, what would you be and who would you want to belong to?
4) If you were to perform in the circus, what would you do?
5) If you could have personally witnessed one event in history, what would you want to have seen?
Family or Friends Fun Friday
Grow A Garden Together
Wishing you could get your kids excited about eating veggies? Growing your own can help. Pick seeds or seedlings out with your child and work together to make a garden. Water the plants each day and observe any changes. You can even chart predictions on when your child thinks they’ll sprout out of the ground or start producing. Vegetables can be grown indoors or outside using pots or containers. Lettuce, carrots, zucchini, cucumbers, and tomatoes can all be relatively easy to grow.
Free Breakfast and Lunch for Students
Additional sites have been added to the LISD free breakfast/lunches and students no longer have to be with you to pick up the food. Please click on this link to see the sites, times, and procedures for food pick up.
