County Central January Hawk Talk
'Home of the Hawks'
Principal's Point
Dear Parents & Guardians,
I hope you all had an excellent winter break. Our January exams for Grades 9-12 are underway, with our Grade 12s having written their first two diploma exams this week. Please review the exam schedule below to ensure you and your child are aware of the dates and times for their exams. If you would like to help your child prepare, we have posted a study strategies guide for students on our website. One of the very best ways for students to deepen their understanding of a concept or retain information is to have them talk about the topic with someone. I encourage families to ask students what they're learning and what they're studying, and have them explain or summarize the topic to you.
The last day of classes for students in Grades 10-12 is Tuesday, January 17th, and for Grade 9s its January 20th. From the 18th to the 27th, students in Grades 9-12 will be writing final exams according to the schedule below. Students in Grades 7 & 8 do not have school January 25th, 26th, or 27th, and January 30th is a site-based professional development day.
On December 20th, members of the Vulcan Lions Club put on an incredible Christmas dinner for our school. The students thoroughly enjoyed their turkey with all the sides. Many thanks to the Lions as well as to the Champion 4-H club for providing the dessert treats. Our staff and students are grateful for your support and generosity!
CCHS will be releasing our Semester I report cards on February 3rd. Report cards will include final grades for our semestered courses and mid-term grades for our year-long courses. A note will be shared with families via Edsby when the report cards are ready, along with instructions on how to view them. If you require a printed copy of your child's report card, please contact the school.
Semester II begins on January 31st. Any students wishing to make timetable changes can pick up a form from the Main Office, fill it out, have a parent or guardian sign off on the change, and then submit their request to the Main Office. Mr. Monts or I will then call students in to adjust their schedules.
Our next School Council meeting is scheduled for February 1st at 5:30pm. I encourage all parents and guardians to join us - this is a great way to become involved in making decisions about the direction of the school, as well as to help through volunteering and fundraising. Please keep an eye on the school's Facebook page for the meeting link.
Please continue visiting our website and Facebook page to stay up-to-date on news and events throughout the month. Best of luck to our students on their exams!

Math Puzzle Challenge
Hi Families! In last month's newsletter, I had mentioned our new "Family Math Puzzle Challenge" that will be released in our newsletters moving forward. Each month starting now you will find a new challenging puzzle for you and your students to complete at home.
If the completed monthly puzzle is done correctly and handed in to me (Ms.Richmond) before the release of the next newsletter, your family will be entered in a draw to win a prize that will be handed out at our awards ceremony closer to the end of the year. This means that if you correctly complete and turn in all upcoming puzzles, you will have 5 draw entries for your family!
For the January "Space Travel Puzzle', you need to outline your process for getting home from Starbase. You will get one draw entry for a correct answer to the first problem, as well as an extra entry if you solve the second problem as well.
Thank you everyone! I look forward to seeing your submissions! Please contact Ms.Richmond if you have any questions.

School Cash
Fees & forms for athletics are available as well on School Cash. If you haven't already done so you will need to register an account and instructions can be found here.
Alternatively cash or cheque can be accepted in the office.
