Preemption Act
Squatters can take residence on public lands and buy land for $1.25 per acre after 14 months! Up to 160 acres can be bought. An advantage to the squatters land can be bought before it goes on sale, eliminating competitive bidders.
Timber Culture Act
160 acres can be claimed! A large number of trees must be planted on a portion of the land. Intent is to increase the number of trees on the Great Plains.
