giant alpine slalom skiing
introduced to the olympics in 1952
what is it??
The giant slalom has characteristics of both the slalom and the downhill, the latter a longer, faster race. Giant slalom gates are wider and set farther apart, and the course is longer than in the slalom.
whats this for??
i have always been interested in giant alpine slalom skiing. I find it very intriguing. I especially love it sense my family and I go skiing and snowboarding every year, I know the skill level you have to have in order to just stay on your feet, I could never imagine my self going down that mountain at 60-70 miles per hour.
lets look at the data!
the scatter plot
the pink squares represent the womens times and the blue x's represent the mens times
lines of best fit
the blue line represents mens times getting faster at a steeper paste and the womens times getting faster at a less steep paste
what does it mean??
i have showed that in the year 2040,which is not a year the winter olympics will take place so it will be 2042. The men will pass the women with a time of 132.86 which is equivalent to 2 minutes and 12.86 seconds. The graph shows that they are both getting faster, which is good, and will slowly still get faster.
the x axis
in this specific graph, the x axis represents the time in years, in which the winter olympics will take place in. We have come to find out that the year that the men will be faster than the women is in 2042
the y axis
in this graph, the y axis represents the time in seconds in which it took skiers to complete their run. I converted their original time, which was in minutes, to seconds. The time the men will have when they pass the women will be 132.86 seconds or 2 minutes and 12.86 seconds.
