South America
History
The first people lived in South America about 20,000 years ago. They lived by gathering plants and hunting animals like mammoths. They used mostly all of their surrounding resources to build their homes.
The Ruins of Caral
Caral, South America was inhabited between 2627 and 2020 B.C. and its land area was about 150 acres. Caral city had six pyramids, two plazas, an amphitheatre, and ordinary houses. The population was estimated to have been about 3,000 people. The living arrangement seemed to have been large, well kept rooms on top of the pyramids for the elite craftsmen, and the ground to be for workers.
Spanish Colonial Houses
People that settled in South America from Spain usually build houses that were one story, had a flat clay tile roof, thick walls, several exterior doors, and small windows, usually without glass.
Modern Homes
In the modern South American homes they have been close together. There are a lot of people that live there so most of the houses have multiple families living in them. The houses usually don't have windows since there isn't any air conditioning.
