Teacher Spotlight: 4th Grade Team
I scream, you scream...we all scream for Global Outcomes!
Global Outcomes, So Sweet!
Ok, actually the saying goes..."I Scream, You Scream, We all scream for Ice Cream!" But we have to admit that we love when our global outcome experiences for students are this SWEET!
This week we are highlighting the 4th grade team for the quality at which students are demonstrating the Global Outcome of creativity. One of the grade level expectations in our state standards for 4th grade students is to write opinion pieces on topics supporting a point of view with reasons and information. We think that this standard should be as engaging as possible, so the 4th grade team has crafted a creative opportunity to do this for an authentic audience that has become an Estes Park tradition.
The 4th grade team has formed a partnership with Laura's Fine Candies in downtown Estes Park to host an annual competition for a new ice cream flavor.
Students in 4th grade created and named their own original ice cream flavors. Then they wrote persuasive essays on why the flavor they created should be made and distributed at Laura's.
Employees at Laura's Fine Candies picked 8 finalists based on the essays, and made the student-created ice cream flavors for public tasting. On Tuesday, April 23, the public had the opportunity to go down to Laura's and taste the 8 winning flavors and vote for a favorite.
The winning ice cream flavor from that final tasting will be made and distributed throughout the summer for all Estes Park visitors to enjoy.
And the winner is....
It was a tough decision, and this year our winner is Eduardo Villalobos for his ice cream flavor of "Extra Chocolate"! It is a caramel-based ice cream with caramel swirls and chocolate, chocolate, and more chocolate! Congratulations Eduardo!
Thank you to Laura's Fine Candies for your partnership with our teachers and students. Thank you to the 4th grade team for providing an exceptional experience inside and outside the classroom that our students will remember for a lifetime. Life is sweet!
