Report on the 2nd short-term exchange with groups of pupils
Portuguese Students' report on their Intercultural learning experience
From 25th March to 1st April, Beatriz Lourenço, Bruno Gomes and Lara Almeida, accompanied by Mr. António Casal and Mr. Carlos Correia, participated in the second short-term exchange with groups of pupils which was held in Germany.
Stadtbergen, the city that welcomed them, also welcomed students from Spain, Italy and Poland. Each student was hosted at a Germany’s partner home, with whom they shared stories and experiences. During that week, it was possible to acquire knowledge about the German educational system through visits to different type of classrooms.
We attended different lessons and used apps like Geogebra to test our knowledge about Geometry. We took part in 2 different workshops. A handcrafts workshop for the boys and a joint cooking workshop for the girls.
Furthermore, they had a unique chance to deepen their knowledge about German cultural and historical heritage thanks to the unforgettable study visits to Augsburg, Munique, Allgäu and Nördlingen. In Munique, they had the opportunity not only to take part in a workshop at Erfindergarden, a fab lab where they could hack a game, Minecraft, and use a laser printer to print something they want in wood, but also to explore the city and its monuments. In Augsburg they could visit the Fuggerei, it was the first social neighborhood where poor people can live for 0,99€ per year but only if they pray 3 times a day. It is still in use today and is internationally famous. Of course, they didn’t miss a visit to Augsburg Cathedral! In Allgäu they visited a cheese factory and the famous castle Neuschwanstein. Also, in Nördlingen, they visited the monumental castle Katzenstein.
To sum up, it was an unforgettable experience full of sensations, emotions and learning. Bonds were created, not only between the foreign partners, but also between the students of the Agrupamento de Escolas de Sátão,who got a chance to get to know each other better.
Quotes from the student’s logbook:
Bruno: “It was undoubtedly the best experiences, if not the best, I have ever experienced. The speed with which I made bonds with people I still barely knew was incredible. (...) It was difficult to contain the tears and there were times when this was impossible because it was a very intense week. There have been many mixed emotions throughout the week and I miss everything, the friendships, the adventures, our moments ... It was an incredible week and I wish I could repeat it … Thank you for everything."
Beatriz: “It was without a doubt the best week of my life! I've met people I know will stay with me forever. Besides, something happened that I was not expecting: I had the chance to get acquainted in a unique way with my fellow travelers. I would like to thank you for sharing this incredible experience with me and for more! I must also mention that it was incredible that the German students accompany us in every activity. Thanks to this we have been able to develop a special relationship not only with our hosts but also with all the other students. Thanks for everything.”
Lara: "In just one week I have learned great things, made friends, became more receptive to new ideas, people and cultures and am more aware of some issues and problems that are currently being discussed. I learned about the educational system of almost all the countries that participated in this project and, of course, I knew several applications, some related to mathematics and science and others with foreign languages, which allow us to learn a lot!”
