North Park Elementary December Edition
Principal Points
Moberly’s Mission Statement:
To ensure all students have a quality education and a sense of direction.
North Park Vision:
We provide a safe environment to encourage, empower and educate, every child, every day!
As we get ready for Christmas Break, just a quick reminder to continue to read with your child every day! They love to read to you and you can read more difficult books to them. It is so important for them to hear adults reading for a model! Enjoy great family time and have a Merry Christmas with all of the blessings!
PBS
North Park is a PBiS school. What that means is that we support students with positive language and expectations. We reward students, classrooms and building for putting for their best effort, being responsible and respectful. As we return to school, we will review lessons to remind students of the expectations!
LIbrary News
Parent bulletin blurb: Remember that even though they are renovating, the Moberly Public Library is still open for business! Stop by and find some books to read with your family. Remember, kids who see their parents reading are more likely to read for fun themselves.
Title I Helpful Hints
Keep Your Child Hooked on Reading
Here are some ways to keep your child interested in reading:
- Make it a Daily Activity
- Many parents find bedtime the best time for reading with their children. But any time of the day will work just as well.
- Set a Good Example: Let your child see you reading often. It doesn’t matter what you read. What’s important is showing your child you value reading.
- Have a “Family Reading Time” :Turn off the TV and have everyone grab something to read. Take turns telling about what you are reading.
- Praise Your Child for Reading: Let your child know it pleases you when he or she reads. Point out how nice your child’s reading sounds. Avoid correcting your child too much.
- Make Your Home “Reading-Rich” : Leave interesting books and magazines around the home for your child to pick up and read.
- Have Fun With Reading: To make reading fun: put on a puppet show or skit based on the story you have read, have your child draw pictures of favorite characters, or take turns telling jokes from age-appropriate joke books.
