Situationists
The situationist international was formed in 1957 with the goal of toppling the current socio economic system and creating a free and egalitarian one. In order to spread their message they used many different mediums such as literature, art and film. The mediums of art which they used were graffiti, comic strips, or photographs. The culmination of the situationist movement was in 1969 when their ideas lead 10 million students and workers to go on a 2 week general strike shutting down France. After the strike ended the Situationist tried to rekindle the fire they started in 1969, but they did so unsuccessfully. In 1972 the group disbanded but their influence on popular movements did not. The Occupy movement recently used their idea of a nonhierarchical social movement very successfully.
