Charger Check-In
March 24, 2022
A Note from Ms. Owens
We've had another great week at St. Catherine! Thank you to the School Advisory Board for the delicious donuts on Monday. The sun was out, kids were smiling and adults were happy! I also want to give a special shout out to Mrs. Fitzpatrick-Terrill and Mrs. Hedderman for all the logistical work they did to make this fun event happen. Mrs. Leen is challenging students to think critically with a Wordle activity. Thanks to Mr. Haneberg and Mrs. Felmon, our 6th graders took a trip to Marist's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat! I had a great afternoon on Tuesday as I was able to spend time in 8th grade teaching about US imperialism in the late 19th and early 20th century. As a former history teacher, it was a lot of fun for me!
I also want to thank the SCA households that were able to complete the 5Essentials survey. According to UChicago, our response rate for parents/guardians was over 30 percent which means we surpassed the 20 percent requirement and will receive the data from your feedback.
On behalf of the SCA community, I also want to thank Mrs. Lombardo and Mrs. Lyons for their incredible work to bring St. Baldrick's back to St. Catherine after our two-year hiatus. We had an amazing afternoon and the students who "braved the shave" were greeted with cheers of congratulations by their classmates and friends!
As we move into our second month of being mask-optional, most other Covid mitigations are in place. My understanding is mitigations will lifted layer by layer on a very measured basis. By now, you know that large gatherings are permitted - Open House, Fish Fry, Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. While it does not affect us on a daily basis, students no longer need to wear masks on school busses. We also have an update to protocols for siblings (or household members) of a person who is symptomatic.
- If a child is symptomatic, the siblings can go to school for one day while the sick child sees the doctor or obtains a Covid test (clinical setting).
If the sick child gets an alternative diagnosis or tests negative, the siblings can continue going to school on Day 2.
If the sick child does not test/go to the doctor and symptoms persist, siblings must stay home on Day 2 until the sick child is diagnosed as not having COVID.
If the sick child gets better in less than one day, everyone can return Day 2.
If he/she tests positive, then normal quarantine rules apply.
These details have not been added to the slide deck yet. I hope to get it updated by next week.
