Centerview families:
Here we are putting closure to the 2020-21 school year. A BIG “Thank You” to our students and families learning in-person and through extended flex learning. We’ve modified, adjusted, and pivoted throughout this year. We’ve persevered; personally, educationally and as families. We’ve found in many ways we are so much better than the challenges that come our way.
Our approach this school year has been authentic. We collectively acknowledged the reality of this pandemic and continued to learn and grow through the virus that confronted all of us. Students and teachers persisted, families partnered, and we adapted as a school community. With the insight we have gained over the past year we will continue to innovate in the best interest of our students next year – just hopefully without a pandemic!
Right now, we plan to resume in the fall as normal…day one starting on Tuesday, September 7! Whoo-hoo! School communications will resume in early August with information about meet and greet events, school supplies and the plan for the start of the school year. In the meantime, the District Service Center will be open all summer should you have questions or need help.
For programming this summer, we are following updated health and safety guidance. See more information provided below.
To those of you who are leaving us for new places and adventures, we wish you all the best. Congratulations to our very capable and enthusiastic 4th graders who are onto a new stage in their academic careers! And, well wishes to Mrs. Ann Baldwin, our Centerview Speech and Language Clinician, who is retiring. We applaud you and wish you well in the opportunities that will come with new free time.
Enjoy a restful and replenishing summer with your families! Keep learning and growing…it’s what we do!
With gratitude,
Mike
For Extended Flex Learning families: Thank you and happy summer!
Greetings,
The end of the 2020-2021 school year is upon us. Tomorrow is the last day of school!
I have learned so much over these last several months. I was reminded that I am more resourceful than I think I am. I believe that humans really care about each other. There are many examples of this each day at our schools and in our communities. It became crystal clear to me that I cannot become too comfortable because everything can change overnight.
There are also many things that I am grateful for. Laughter truly is the best medicine and medical professionals are my heroes. I appreciate the slower pace of life. I am extremely thankful for the SLP families who remained committed, supportive and flexible throughout this entire extended flexible learning experience. A HUGE thank you to EACH of you!
Here are important reminders for your family as we close out the year:
- Drive-by parade for grades 1-4 is June 10: On Thursday, June 10, distance learning teachers for grades 1-4 will be hosting a drive-by parade on the Westwood Campus from 4–5 p.m. Mark your calendar and plan to drive by to help us celebrate a great year! (Kindergarteners have had their event on Monday, June 7 at the DSC.)
- School resource return: We had a great turn out on June 7 to drop off educational resources. Thank you to all who braved the heat to return items. If you were unable to drop off resources earlier this week, please connect with your child’s teacher to determine a time and place to do so.
- iPads can stay home for the summer: Students may keep school-issued iPads at home for the summer if you plan to return to SLP in the fall. If you will not be enrolled next year, please let us know so that the iPad can be returned with other student resources.
- Report Card Distribution: Report cards will be distributed by your child’s home school. Details will be noted elsewhere in this newsletter.
It has been an honor for me to serve the Extended Flexible Learning students, families and staff this year. I hope you have a great summer filled with fun, relaxation and learning.
Thank you!

We remain committed to safe learning at school this summer and as we plan for the fall. A summary of our current health and safety plans and learning models can be found on our COVID-19 web hub.
