On the Move
- Get up find and fine a partner to compare solutions.
- "Hot Seat" - students rotate seats to complete a different step in the problem.
- "Think, Pair, Share" with a peer that is not sitting next to you!
Drama & Role Playing
- Student acts as the teacher - Finding mistakes in problems and solutions
- Debates - Students defend their reasoning and find faults in their peers reasoning.
Energizers
- Gallery Walk - students work on problems posted around the room.
- "Simon Says"
- Measure Objects around the room during geometry unit.
- Calculate walking speeds by walking different paths around the room.
Quick Games
- SMARTboard Ball Toss Review - students throw a soft ball at the SMARTboard to choose a review problem.
- Create songs that describe math rules and procedures.
Stretching
- Stretch before and after class.
- Run errands for the teacher.
- Students are responsible for gathering materials and putting materials away.
- Students stand or walk around the room instead of sitting.
- Take a stretch break during assessments.
