KTS Newsletter
Term 4, Week 3, Tuesday 2nd November 2021
A warm welcome to Lisa, a new student who has joined Room 3 this week.
Congratulations to all the students who won prizes in the Balance and Bounce Challenge prize-giving yesterday, and especially to Chloe (pictured right) who won the iPad! The prize draw video and a complete list of winners can be found on our website. Prizes can be collected (contactless) from the office between 9.00 – 3.00 each day.
We are delighted to announce we raised a grand total of $7000, which given the circumstances is pretty commendable.
Congratulations to four of our intermediate students who have won places in this year's Art in the Hood competition - Belle , Kaylee, Scarlett and Zoya; and a very special congratulations to SeoYun for winning. Her work is just stunning (see below). All this years winners will have their work displayed in Halsey Street this year.
Return to School planning
There have been a group of Auckland principals working on recommendations for a potential return to school for Monday 15th November. I have no information about this as yet but am attending a Zoom forum on Thursday morning with the Auckland Primary Principal Association executive. Once an announcement has been made I will be in touch to ascertain your intentions. I will then work with the Board on the return to school plan for KTS.
In the meantime, we continue our distance learning programme. We know we have varying levels of motivation as we enter our 9th week but hopefully the end is in sight. Fingers crossed
- Alison
Talent Quest goes online
While we have been learning at home, many of us have been picking up new hobbies or spending time developing our talents. We are keen to continue with the annual talent quest but as an online competition so it can go ahead no matter what happens with the return to school. Students are invited to submit a video recording (maximum 3 minutes) of their entry by Friday 19 November at 3:00pm (week 5). The intended audience is the school community, and winners will be invited to share their recording in some way to celebrate their success.
More information, the entry form and the judging criteria will be available on the KTS website. If you have any questions please contact Catherine: catherine@kts.school.nz
Old tractor tyres – free give away
We have purchased new planter boxes as we continue our beautification of the school but need to do something with the old tractor tyres. We have 16 in total, varying in sizes from 90cm in diameter to 1.5m. If anyone would like them, they are ‘free to a good home’. Please collect in the top courtyard by the hall. We are trying to find somewhere that can take those that are left by the end of the week.
Library News
There has been a big sort out in our School Library and the books that have been taken out are free to a good home. These can be found on tables outside the Intermediate classrooms. Students can take up to 3 books and they are at all levels – picture books, non-fiction, early chapter books, bronze readers and other novels. Available 9am – 3pm, Mon to Fri.
If you are coming into school, please return your school library books to the box on the Office doorstep.
I have started gathering up library books from around the classrooms as it is getting towards stocktake time.
Students who have completed their literacy awards can email me and I will arrange a Zoom session to talk to you about your reading.
Auckland Libraries are now doing click and collect. Visit: https://www.aucklandlibraries.govt.nz/Pages/click-collect.aspx
Cornerstone Plaques
As we head towards the end of another school year, some families are preparing to leave the school for the last time. You may want to consider purchasing a cornerstone plaque, which will be placed on the pillars outside the intermediate classrooms. In years to come, they are a great record of your involvement with the school. The order forms can be found on the front page of the website. http://www.kts.school.nz/
