PSSA testing began this week
Here are some tips for making test day easier:
- Don’t overemphasize the importance of the test. Just encourage your child to do his or her best.
- Let your child know that you love him or her unconditionally; no test score can change that.
- Think of the things at which your child excels. Let him or her know that you’re aware of those things.
- Talk with your child’s teacher and ask for strategies or suggestions for test day (For example: Relax. Read the questions carefully. Think about your answer. Answer the easiest questions first, and go back to the harder ones later.)
- Begin establishing a pattern of appropriate rest at least a week or two before the test. If we’ve let an appropriate bedtime slide, testing time is the time to get it back on track.
Spring Weather Reminders
With the advent of Spring comes warmer weather, I am sure that many families and children are looking forward to the beautiful weather. I hope you are taking the opportunity to spend time outside. As such, I want to remind students and parents of appropriate school attire expectations. The following information can be found in the Elementary Student Handbook:
STUDENT DRESS CODE (Board Policy 221: Dress and Grooming) Students wearing inappropriate school clothes will be sent to the office. Parents will be contacted to request that a change of clothes be brought from home; otherwise, if possible, clothes will be provided for the day from our limited collection in the Health Room. Methacton requests the continued understanding and cooperation of each family in monitoring the appropriateness of school dress.
JEWELRY - Sending your child to school with valuable items such as jewelry will be the sole responsibility of the parent(s). These items may be lost or need to be removed for gym class. The potential for a young child to misplace or loose such an item is great. For the safety of these personal effects, we strongly recommend that these items remain at home.
GYM CLASS ATTIRE Sneakers are required for gym class. Jewelry, dangling earrings, rings, and necklaces are not to be worn in gym class for safety reasons.
Please dress appropriately for school and the weather. If you are not sure, then please refrain from wearing the item. As always, we thank you for all of your support and cooperation.
