REMINDER: EARLY RELEASE on FRIDAY, DECEMBER 20th! 12 p.m. Dismissal
From Mrs. Barry:
"Home is the starting place of love, hope and dreams.” “Home is where love resides, memories are created, friends always belong, and laughter never ends.” These are two of my favorite quotes about home. As the year ends, I wanted to once again express my joy and gratitude at having the opportunity to return home to Meadow Wood. This exceptional school and community truly exemplify the above quotes. We have incredible parents who volunteer their time, talents, and resources to make MWE not only a school, but a haven for friendship, learning, and growth. We have incredible teachers and staff who truly take the children into their hearts and treat them as their own, while diligently working to achieve campus and district goals. But most importantly, we have incredible children who are kind, funny, bright, talented, and overall amazing! Thank you for allowing me to make this wonderful place my home. Thank you for sharing your precious children with me. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement. I wish you all the best this holiday season!
Welcome home to MWE!

Welcome, Mr. Lockaby!
From Mr. Lockaby:
Hi! My name is Joshua Lockaby, aka "Mr. Lock." I grew up in a small town in South Carolina. Don't worry, I made my way to Texas as fast as I could! I graduated from Limestone College with a BA in Management. Afterward, I attended the School of Audio Engineering (SAE) in Nashville, Tennessee, where I graduated top of my class. My mother was a school teacher for 30+ years and my father was a Southern Baptist preacher. Growing up I never imagined I would ever work in Education. I began as a substitute teacher with Austin ISD and was immediately hooked. My goal is to complete my teaching certification in the next few months. I am blessed with a loving, supportive wife, two amazing stepsons (15 and 22), and a beautiful 2 1/2 year old daughter. I came to Houston, this year, from Austin where I was a teacher's assistant for Special Education in elementary for two years. I am beyond thrilled to be here at Meadow Wood. I believe it's very safe to say that I have found a home here!
Please give Mr. Lock a huge MWE welcome!

International Festival
The International Festival is a wonderful event that celebrates Meadow Wood's rich cultural diversity. It is a fun filled evening where students and families share and learn about cultures and customs of various countries. During the event, students will be issued passports and be able to visit booths where they can sample food and learn about a country's language, history, geographical location, flag and much more. There will also be games and fun filled activities that are sure to delight everyone.
Parents, we invite you to represent your country by bringing photos, information about your country, samples of food, clothing, music, craft or interactive activities. If you are interested in doing so please email Eugenia Boada at eugenialabanca@yahoo.com
Join us on Tuesday, January 28th between 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. for this fun filled event!
Sponsor Spotlight!
Pediatric Dental Safari is a valued supporter of MWE. Please show your love and appreciation by visiting Pediatric Dental Safari for your family and cosmetic dentistry needs.
Dr. Damani created Pediatric Dental Safari because she believes every child should enjoy visiting the dentist. Your child will be amazed by murals depicting the African Savanna and its animals all around the office. Dr. Damani's inspiration for the office design came from her experience participating in a volunteer outreach mission in a remote village in Tanzania.
Monarch Chrysalis in the Classrooms
Ask your Kindergarten, Pre-K, 2nd and 3rd graders about their Monarch Chrysalis. The butterflies should emerge next week! Did you know in Texas we get two waves of Monarch migrations? This is the “Fall” migration, late this year due to drought conditions. Check out migration map: https://maps.journeynorth.org/map/?year=2019&map=monarch-peak-migration
End of Year Giving
Please consider donating to the MWE Eagle Excellence Fund for your year end charitable giving. Your donation is tax deductible and may even be matched by your employer. We are short on this year's goal and would appreciate your year end support. Thanks to all those who have already donated.

Help us say "Thank You!"
We are carrying on the tradition of collecting gift cards for our administrators, receptionists, staff and teachers that don’t have “homeroom” classes (approximately 30 staff members). We would like to recognize them and thank them for their commitment to all of our MWE children this holiday season.
(Please note this is separate from the front desk collection for Custodians, Cafeteria, and Crossing Guards. We have a jar there for them!)
Please drop off any funds you would like to contribute by Tuesday, Dec. 17th to Jenny Trahan, 14235 Cindywood, or send via Venmo to @Jenny-Trahan. Please call or text Jenny Trahan with any questions 713-248-3665.
Be sure to include “MWE STAFF” in the memo of your donation, along with your family name! A card with participating families’ names, and Amazon or Target gift cards will be distributed to staff members on Thursday, December 19th.
