RANEY ROCKS

A monthly newsletter of activities and events at Raney

September Newsletter

We want to thank all of you for coming to Orientation and Back to School Night in August. What an amazing turn out we had. Thank you parents for all of the support you are providing for your student. This month’s newsletter will highlight some new features to the newsletter and several things we will be doing in the month of September.

Translation Features

We have added an upgrade to our monthly newsletter that allows it to be translated into several languages using Google translate. Scroll to the bottom of the screen and there will be a rectangular bar with the translation option along with an option to change the font size.

Attendance Awareness Month

This month is Attendance Awareness Month. Studies show that being present at school has a huge impact on a student’s academic success starting in kindergarten and continuing through high school.#AttendanceAwarenessMonth

EL Parent Workshop

Join us for our EL parent workshops beginning Monday, September 9. Meeting times will be 9:00 am to 10:30. Our first topic will be listening and speaking strategies in English. Our second meeting will be on September 30.

ID Badges required daily at school

This year as part of our school safety and digital point system we are requiring all students to have their ID badges on them every day. We have the following signs set up at the entrances every morning to remind our students to have their ID badges on them every day.

i-Ready Diagnostics

Our students recently took their i-Ready diagnostic assessment in Language Arts and Math. We will take two other diagnostics as a way for our students to show growth in what they are learning. Our teachers will be working with their students on goal setting during the year to help them reach their growth goals.

Project 2 Inspire

Project 2 Inspire started on Thursday, September 5th at 9:00 am. There are 12 sessions on various topics. You can attend one or all of the sessions.

Second Step

Raney Intermediate is using Second Step for our social emotional learning (SEL). Students will receive one lesson a week. The lessons in Second Step will take our students through the four areas:

  • Mindset and Goals (7 Lessons)
  • Values and Friendships (5 Lessons)
  • Thoughts, Emotions, and Decisions (5 Lessons)
  • Serious Peer Conflicts (9 Lessons)

Parents are encouraged to go to ParentTeenConnect, org as a resource for working with your teen. We are excited to see the growth our students make with these lessons.

Meet our Counselors

At Raney we have 1 full time counselor (Mr. Alaniz) and another counselor for 2 days a week (Mrs. Goddard). We also have two intern cousnelors Mr. Johnson and Mrs. Castaneda. For more information regarding counseling services at Raney please visit.
