KINDERGARTEN FAMILIES
To find bus numbers and pick-up and drop-off times in PowerSchool, click “Forms” and then choose the form titled “Student Demographic Information”. Questions about bus transportation can be directed to the Transportation Office at 614-855-2033.
Please note that state law requires that preschool and kindergarten students must be released to a responsible person. Kindergarten students are normally met by a parent when they get off the school bus in the afternoon after school is dismissed. In the event that a parent is unable to meet the kindergarten student, then please authorize one or more alternatives. This can be an older sibling, neighbor, etc. All possible “persons” that your child can be released to must be on the attached document. Please print, complete and provide to the bus driver on the first day of transportation or give to your teacher at the assessment appointment. Please make a copy for your reference. BUS PERMISSION FORM, click here
Please visit our district website at https://www.napls.us/ to find important information, such as our school handbook, school start and ending times, supply lists, and much more.
FIRST DAYS OF SCHOOL
The ELC has individual assessment appointments and a two-day staggered start to begin the 2023-2024 school year. This attendance structure for young students is beneficial to help the children adjust to preschool and kindergarten.
Please review the schedule by clicking here to view the important dates and times in August for the ELC.
ATTENTION PARENTS
We ask that parents not walk through the school to escort their child to class to begin the year. Staff members will be available during the early days of school to assist students as they learn to navigate to their classrooms. We know how important the first day of school pictures are for families, but we are requesting that you take the pictures at your home. Please do not travel to the ELC to take a picture. You are welcome on the school grounds during non-school hours to take pictures in front of the ELC building.
ASSESSMENT APPOINTMENT OVERVIEW
Assessment appointments are conducted by the ELC teaching staff to determine each child’s current academic level. This assessment identifies a child’s current skill set to ensure the child receives the services and supports necessary to maximize opportunities for healthy development and learning, as well as assist the teacher plan for instruction. You are welcome to bring your child’s school supplies to your assessment appointment.
A parent (or designee; grandparent, aunt, babysitter) should bring the child to the assessment appointment. Please note that procedural information will be provided closer to the assessment date. If your child is unable to attend the assessment appointment, the teacher will conduct the assessment/screener once school begins. Teachers are not able to schedule appointments prior to the designated, scheduled dates listed below.
Preschool: The preschool team will conduct the ASQ Screening Tool with families to gain valuable insight about each child. During the assessment appointment, the teacher will conduct a short assessment based on concepts that are age appropriate that focus on early literacy and math skills. The assessment takes approximately 10 minutes per child.
Kindergarten: The Kindergarten staff will conduct the Performance Tasks with the KRA (Kindergarten Readiness Assessment) developed by the Ohio Department of Education and a screening to identify key kindergarten standards. The assessment focuses on areas of literacy and math skills. The observation tasks of the KRA will be conducted once students are in the first few weeks of school and focus on social and self-help skills.
*Both the KRA and Preschool Screener are mandated by the Ohio Department of Education. The results of the assessments are incorporated into the year-long assessments that teachers share throughout the school year and at parent/teacher conferences. If you have any questions, please contact the classroom teacher or school administration.
Scheduling Assessment Appointments: Classroom teachers reached out to all of their parents to schedule an appointment time.
English Language Learners: If your child will need to be screened to identify ELL support services, the ELL team will work with the teacher to coordinate the assessment appointment and ELL screening.

LUNCH - ALL DAY PROGRAM ONLY
FREE AND REDUCED MEAL PROGRAM
For two school years, the federal government made all students eligible for its Free and Reduced Meal program. However, for the 2022-2023 school year, it returned to only being available for students whose families qualify for free or reduced price meals. To determine if students qualify for the program, parents must complete the application linked here. This application must be completed every school year if you want to be considered for the program. Questions can be directed to Carol Hamilton, Coordinator of Food Services at 614-413-8589 or hamilton.27@napls.us.
MEAL INFORMATION
Children have the option of bringing a packed lunch from home or purchasing lunch at school. If your child is purchasing food at school, you will need to add funds to your child’s PaySchools account (access PaySchools here). A daily lunch costs $2.50. Click here to view the ELC lunch menu.
